underneath spare tire help
I am wanting to put my spare underneath, I have the carrier and bolts but I need to know which holes in the frame to use. I wrestled it around last night but it is just to heavy to trial and error method until I find the right ones.
Can someone post pics of which frame holes are used, and if you could measure the length of the bolts from the frame to the the carrier that would save me some time also Thanks

Re: underneath spare tire help
I can measure, but it won't be until tonight when I get off work. I assume you know that it goes in diagonal, with the removable nut closer to the rear for easy access. Mine angles from the left side attachment point up front to the left side toward the rear with the removable nut close to the rear.

Re: underneath spare tire help
That would be great! I have a general idea of how it goes, but there are several holes in the frame and I just got tired of trying this and that.... you have to unbolt the bed and raise it up each time to get the the bolt in and out with the square head made on it

Re: underneath spare tire help
Don't know about the front-most bolt, but the rear one (with the removable nut) goes through the bottom of the frame rail. I take mine out all the time when I'm working under there and shove the rest of the carrier toward the front out of the way. I just poke the bolt back through the frame and hook up the carrier when I'm done. It wouldn't be long enough if it came down through the top.......

Re: underneath spare tire help
OK, went out at lunch. My measurements are from an LWB Fleetside. Don't know if that matters or not.
Driver's side: Hole is on bottom rail of frame, 26 1/2" from back end of frame. There looks to be 2 holes there but I can't tell if one is original or not because I have an exhaust mount bolted there and I don't know if the exhaust guy drilled his own hole or used an existing one. Anyway, the hole the carrier bolt goes through is fairly large diameter (as is the passenger side hole). Passenger side: Hole is on bottom rail of frame 6 1/2" from the back end of the frame. There are 5 holes near the end of the frame; the spare tire carrier bolt goes through the 4th hole from the end of the frame (larger diameter hole). With Woogeroo's photos, you should be able to get it. The trick is to use the bottom rail and not go through the top of the frame…….. |

Re: underneath spare tire help
A thing to remember. The holder was made for a narrow rim and tire. No room for a seven inch wide rim and tire.
