Hey all!
Just picked up my first Chevy. Had a 76' F100 stepside, but sold it and picked up a project I know will be wonderful. For $800, obtained a 1966 C10 Fleet LWB. Has a lot of potential. Gonna rat it, and run it. This will be my daily and im so stoked about it.
I do need help though. I cannot for the life of me, figure out what engine I have. ![]() Now for the pics! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Hey all!
Welcome to the forum
![]() All I can tell you from those pics is that you have a small block Chevy engine. You can find out more specifics is you can get the casting numbers on the block back behind the drivers side head. You can also see if there are still the stamped numbers and letters on this pad in front of the passenger side head.

Re: Hey all!
Oh, lol, thats not my street. Thats the street i picked up the 66 from. The black truck in the background was the one i sold. It was a 76 F100 stepside. Too many issues tho and it wouldve just been sitting not getting the attention it deserved.

Re: Hey all!
Welcome.. I am guessing that engine is a 327 becuase it looks like the right color and it has a pcv valve but the heads are not tapped and 327's were in 66. Heck I could be very wrong. Check behind the seat and see if the build sheet is still back there. It will be visable though the seat springs. It will tell you what engine was in the truck when it came off the line. That might not even be the original engine.

Re: Hey all!
Small block Chevy heads did not have accessory bolt holes until the 1968 model year. That is not an original engine for that truck. At least the intake, heads and valve covers are not. An original engine would have the oil fill tube at the front of the intake, and it would not have that style of valve covers.

Re: Hey all!
And it looks like both heads have accessories bolted into both. Doesn't really matter as long as it runs well.
Good looking truck though

Re: Hey all!
You must be at Fort Lewis then?
Was the "MF 19800" all you found on the front pad? Could the MF have been after the numbers? There should be more numbers on the rear of the block behind the drivers side head. This is the casting number of the block. That will give a basic range of what size engines that block was used for. I think you need to look a little farther down towards the outside of the truck.

Re: Hey all!
Yes I am stationed at Fort Lewis.
The MF was in front of the numbers. As for looking further, I thought something was further down. Ill take a look when my neck isnt killing me as much, haha. |

![]() I keep forgetting to get that little mirror to peek around corners. Thanks for reminding me! lol Quick question guys, what repair would be best that would have nice wiring diagrams and info about the engine. I cannot find a repair manual anywhere in my area. :EDIT: Just did a quick search and saw the most common answer was the truck shop manual. Would i be correct if i purchased this? ![]() Last edited by r3skyline; 09-10-2012 at 04:59 PM. |
