Re: Turbo 350 to 700r4 Swap
700 should be about 3 inches longer than the 350 which will require a shorter driveshaft, if yours is not bent it can be shortened by a driveline shop. If memory serves the cross member is a little further rearward on a 700r4 vehicle , I think you can re-position or re-drill. You would need a new indicator for the shifter, if its a column shift.
Let see what else...... |

Re: Turbo 350 to 700r4 Swap
if your looking at making power , even down the road. Consider a turbo 200r4. They can be built to hold more power than a 700. They held up well with the highly built gnx's of the day. They would be a good choice.

Re: Turbo 350 to 700r4 Swap
I went from a 350C tranny in my truck to a 700 R4 and I had to move the rear tranny mount about 1.5" and do some redrilling in the frame. The driveline was shortened to fit the new length and the shift indicator was changed out for the OD setup without much effort. I finally went to a B&M truck Megashifter to get the positive shift control that I wnated and I am not sorry that I did that. My 700 R is built up from the factory specs with the heavy duty clutches, and rotating parts. Over the years I have had to replace the oil pump in the tranny a couple times, since I was abusing it a tad to much.
The tranny is connected to a 383 stroker engine and feeds to 3.73 gears.

Re: Turbo 350 to 700r4 Swap
Are you guys above sure you had the original TH350? Squares should have had a 9" tail shaft instead of the 6" version. I swapped my 700R4 in place of a TH350C and was able to re-use the same drive shaft. The 9" tailshaft TH350 is within 1/16" of a 700R4 in length.

Re: Turbo 350 to 700r4 Swap
Not meaning to hi jack but I'm putting a 700r4 in my 69K10 mated to a divorced T case. I'm wondering if theres a way to shorten the 700 by using a shorter shaft or if a 350 shaft will work in the 700?

Re: Turbo 350 to 700r4 Swap
Good to hear, I knew i would have to Move the cross-member back. Is the shifter linkage a direct hook up? How do I swap out the indicator(dont want to use floor shifter)?
Local guy cna shorten if nessesary. IS there a certain 700r I should look for out of a certain year car? Not concerned on power handling, just want the truck to have a OD |

Re: Turbo 350 to 700r4 Swap
You want to look for an 87' and up 700R4 (make sure it's a 700R4 and NOT a 4L60E though!). They have a lot of upgrades the pre-87's don't have.

Re: Turbo 350 to 700r4 Swap
motornut-thanks for posting those sizes.
It looks like the 700 uses the shortest (6in) tail housing and since I cant shorten the body, 30 inches is as short as it's gonna get. |

Re: Turbo 350 to 700r4 Swap
tip, get the GM dipstick and tube from the dealer if it doesn't come with the transmission.
