61 4x4 steering box bracket

here is a pic of a stock stock steering frame bracket. it moves the box away from the frame. the frame is not straight from the cab forward, kinda curves. want to put power steering on the truck. I have part #'s to build a new adj. drag link. 4wd box and it's pitman arm, or sense the truck sits so high stock, a after-market say 4" lift. will have to mod the stock frame bracket (bracket is beefy) or build a new one. i would put this in the 4x4 section, but not much info on these old trucks. first thing they say is to throw the axles away-----capt you have any ideas on mounting?

are those the original rad support mounting brackets
you can change the steering arm to take the later d/link end if you are going to keep the orig frt axle. the newer style frt axles are pretty a bolt in if you are going to upgrade to disc brakes

rad support brackets are org.(can give you a better pic) not going to change the axle. J.kirn--you going to run manual box? mine is shot. if i get rid of the bracket i will give you a pm. will be awhile though--at least 6mo's or less--- old and slow--------

It's been a long time since I have seen one of those steering box brackets. Those must be a '60-'61 only sort of thing.

You should be able to use one of my steering box adapter plates. I have sold several to guys that used them on 4x4's.

will try and find an old 4x4 box to fab up. don't need a new one if i can't make it work. padresag--a 85 k-5 blazer tie-rod end is suppose to fit the taper on the stock arm--we will see.

doesn't the orig have a ball stud coming off of it?

from your pic it looks like the hole is not tapered? ball stud would be straight with a nut? what year steering arm are you saying to change to? also my steering shaft is 3-1/2" out from the frame. (center of column shaft by rag joint.) capt with your bracket and box would it be the same? I guess what i am asking is it the same as a 2wd.

the hole is tapered. can't remember if those ball studs were pressed in or nutted. you have to drill and ream(taper) for the new end. I didn't say to change the steering arm. when you put the newer style str box box in, use the corresponding drag link. this is where you have to modify the steering arm to take the newer end

now i got ya. the parts for the new adj. drag link uses an 85 blazer tie rod end which is supposed to fit the taper. can re-taper also as you suggested. thanks again Ron----kimble
