Brake lines/cables for lifted setups.
I am needing to rebuild my whole brake setup, top to bottom. I have noticed the previous owner cut the rear ebrake cable. All the hoses are rotted.
1. Is a longer ebrake cable need when running a 4" lift, if so, can I get a link to post with part number? 2. Same question on hoses front and rear?

Appears after searching most run the longhorn rear assy.
My jimmy needs the front section also. Or item 4 off this page in the lmc book. Which one is needed? |

I had the same problem. I don't remember exactly why (it was awhile ago) but I found out that hooking up the longhorn cables doesn't really solve the problem without some other modifications. Definitely run some measurements before buying them. Also, I bought cables from LMC and was not impressed, the drum brake side of the cable didn't "snap" into the opening like the factory ones do.
I ended up just running my cables over the leaf springs so that there's no tension on them from the springs. I know this isn't recommended because the rubber over the cables can wear out from rubbing against the top of the spring, but it was a cheap and quick fix. Did that a while ago and they appear fine. Another thing you can do is remove the hanger and relocate it further towards the brake drum (may need to mod a piece off the frame to do so), and lengthen the connector (#9 in the LMC catalog). If you have access to a band saw (or even a good old fashion hack saw), some scrap material, and a welder this can be done fairly easily. This way, the factory length cables should fit without stress and without rubbing the leaf springs. It was an option I was considering before I decided I just needed to get my truck on the road. Also before you buy the overpriced metal brake lines from LMC, try buying some straight lines from Napa auto parts and a brake line bender to make your own. It takes some careful measuring and a little patience but it might save you a little $$$. Just my $0.02, I'll bet one of the seasoned veterans on here will have a better idea.

What else needed to be done to get the longhorns to work?
I'm not buying the metal brake lines. I was referring to the hoses that go from frame to axle. Did the packaging for these cables say what brand they were? |

Like I said, I can't entirely remember and I don't have a lot of time to go back and re-think it all out but I bet if you look at how the cables mount and run measurements relating to where they mount, and then look up the length of the longhorn cables you'll find the problem I found. I think with or without the longhorn you will have to make the mods I explained (relocating the hanger and lengthening the connector). Definitely double check that though. All I know is that the longhorns weren't going to be a simple fix.

I relocated my cable brackets to the bottom of the frame to get a better angle. I also have a four inch lift on the suspension. I have a 14 bolt so I went to the junk yard and found some longer cables from a F@7D van. You can get all these things from inlinetube.com. Just measure good and order. I could get some pics for you but it is a bit early and I have to go to work..HIt me up if you need.

Thanks. I found some hoses made by skyjacker, and you can get them from summit or jegs.
Still working on the cable side of it. zepplin. Do you happen to remember any details on that f word van? Year, trim, 4x4, etc? |

I think I found a cable that might work. Its 1.75 longer in the sheething(between mount/hub). But its 5.375 longer on the cable itself.
Wondering how you can go about cutting the cable and adding my own ends. |

Found another cable, 2.875 longer sheething, 6.875 longer on the cable. Have to figure out how to get rid of 8" of intermediate cable.
