Tranny troubles...
I just put in a th350 in my 63' 4x4 and took her around the block when I was done. It went well until I put it in reverse. You can hear it click in and it wants to go but it wont. Had to put it in neutral and roll it back. Tried it in all gears of the transfer case and same result. Even tried rolling backward and dropping it into reverse and it stops. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Tranny troubles...
Find a safe, low traffic hill, Stop you truck about halfway up the hill, Put your truck in reverse.......
Does it stay there? Kill the engine while still in reverse.... Does it roll back now? If the truck rolls with engine off in reverse But locks-up with the engine running....The forward clutch is staying applied while in reverse, In layman's terms....In reverse & 3rd at the same time. This is a internal issue that normally requires a rebuild. |

Thank you for your input....looks like the tranny is coming back out. I was hoping that was not going to be the case but oh well!

Re: Tranny troubles...
Got burned on a CL replacement tranny, had the shop look at the two I brought in and had the best one repaired...turned out my original was a lock up torque converter with a shift kit so we went with that one as a starting point..the kick down cable seized and the band fried causing it to skip from 3rd to 1st...also changed the valve body..
