Pin Removal
This is the pin on the front hanger of the rear suspension of my '59. How do you get the little bugger out of there?

use the grease zerk thread and a slide hammer to get it out.

In the photo it looks like you already removed the cross bolt, but if for some reason is was broken off it needs removed first, it matches a groove in the cross pin.

That HF slide hammer might be a bit small for that job.
You might be able to screw a stud with the right size threads in the end that was long enough to slip a socket or pipe fitting over it and use a nut and a couple of washers and use that to pull it out. |

while i'm sure that would work, i made mine out of scrap i had laying around
i had a piece of 3/8 rod that i threaded to screw in, slid a weight on the rod and welded an end on the rod to slam the weight on. i used to be a fleet mechanic, we had all sorts of tools to get stuck spring pins out most came out with minimal effort, some took half the day to get out.

What Ogre said he has done is another thing I was going to suggest.
Also you might be able to "borrow" one at Autozone by paying for it, using it and then taking it back and getting your money back. I've done that a few times with their tool loaner program for tools I didn't have and didn't want to drive 20 miles to borrow from a friend. It works great for those 80.00 tools you only use once every couple of years and don't need to own. |
