It will only take a few minutes more to change the hoses. You won't be happy if you still have the same problem after you have cheaped out on $20.00 worth of hoses. When hoses fail it is usually the inner part that you cannot see. Brake pressure pushes the fluid into the caliper then it can't return because the inner part of the hose is collapsed. A good mechanic would change it along with a caliper just to ensure the vehicle is fixed right and won't come back or worse hurt somebody.
Ok thanks for the info i baught all these about ten mins ago at the local parts store here. As for jcambell, get your facts straight before you open your mouth, Im new to most of this and was asking questions, the truck has been parked since I started having issues with the truck, and admins stated that everyone on here is friendly.

Re: Breaking issues plz help this is my D/D!!!!

Had a hose on my '76 that was bad that caused the problem. I replaced the caliper first still had a problem and then figured it was the hose. Go ahead and replace the hoses. They can be a bear but with the right tools it can be done.

Re: Breaking issues plz help this is my D/D!!!!

Lol and you think that you getting in new vehicle is not going to have critical parts issues to? your taking just as much risk that I am. I didnt say I didnt know how to fix them, but again you started this all. When i baught the truck the brakes were not bad and the truck drove and brakes beautifully
No ones feelings were hurt. You assumed that i kept driving the truck with the issues that it was since i started this thread.

One of the things you could do is look for a code on the brake vacuum booster, which would help distinguish which brake system (JB3 = "CH" vs JB5 = "FD") that you have.

Bottom line, though, is we build very very few JB3s. If you simply guessed JB5 you would likely be right.

K

I looked at these on my master it states Zf and on the booster shows Ds any ideas?

J50 just means Power assisted brakes, If JB3 is the base brake system, It may not get listed, Maybe Keith will chime in on this.

Like stated you may need to just measure the rotor thickness.

Ok well i was told that i could return the parts if they were incorrect. there was a previous post that told me to look at the booster if one of the two letters should tell me but what he had listed did not match either one. like (JB3 = "CH" vs JB5 = "FD") but mine says ZF on the master and DS on the booster

You cant assume anything on a 30 year old truck, The booster may not be original.

Ok thats what im wondering and why I was asking becuase of an earlier post stating that these two letters could tell me what kind of brake system it is and your saying it wont. lol So what I think that im going to do is just start taking it apart and then take them in to compare and make sure that they parts match if i have bought the wrong ones.

Everything Keith Seymore has posted lines up on my truck.

Your truck "may not" have its original brake booster, Or should I say.....does not.

Heres a pic Keith posted with My DS booster code listed (arrow) for JB7 brakes......Also listed the "height sensing valve" which I also have.
