283 exhaust mani question

I'm rebuilding my 63 C10 283 engine. I've been going thru the parts & I noticed two threaded holes (offset) on one of the front of the exhaust manis. It been awhile since tear down and was wondering what those holes were for. The other exhaust has the old heater flap in it so I believe that goes on the passenger side & the other ( with the offset threaded holes) should go on the drivers side. Any pics of your alt bracket set up will help.
Thanks

Re: 283 exhaust mani question

the alternator bolts into those, there should be a small stamped steel bracket that goes from those two holes to the head too.

if no one beats me to it I should be able to find a pic for you.

Re: 283 exhaust mani question

I believe this is the specific bracket though that bolts to the exhaust on the driver side for a 283

Wow...none of my alt brackets look like those. IIRC the P.O. put the alt on the passenger side. I think I have the later year alt mount. It's the one that looks like half a clam shell.& adjusts from the top..( will post pics when I get home). My friend loaned me that first bracket...bit it seems to be for headers, not RAM mani. Unless it needs to be spaced away from the exhaust. Anyone have the correct bracket for the 283 alt to exhaust? Thanks for all the pics & help! The people on this forum are great!!!

Re: 283 exhaust mani question

3 pulleys should work for wp-alt, p/s and perhaps a/c or it could have been for double belts on w/p-alt, 1 0r 2 groove pulley on w/p?

Re: 283 exhaust mani question

why do you need the one that mounts to the exhaust studs? if you have the lower one. you will also need the adj brky that goes from the top of the alt. to the frt of the intake manifold

After rereading the above post....I thought I needed the bracket that bolts to the exhaust? Thought that was the main bracket for the alt. As you mentioned it looks like I have the layer exhaust mani..not sure of the year but don't think its from 63.

Re: 283 exhaust mani question

Here are the pics of the exhaust manifold and other pieces I have. Looks like I might need the lower "stock" alt bracket that 1963c10 posted..it's the 4th pic.
