Fuel line and filter help

I want to get the braided fuel line and a good in line filter from summit. This is my first rodeo for GM's. I just don't know what fittings I will need and what filter to get (micron wise)or size wise. Right now there is a hard line coming rom the pump on the right side of the block just up to the altenator area. Then a rubber line from that with one of those crap glass filters then more rubber up to the carb. I want to dress up the engine bay a little and most important try to avoid the horror stories you hear about trucks catching on fire. I have a 84 k10 with a 1978 5.7L 350 in it. The motor is all stock but it does have a aftermarket carb that has auto choke on it.
