Installing reproduction side mirror
I ordered a reproduction side mirror (driver side) for my 71 so it will pass inspection. I got the mirror from Classic Parts of America, and it came with the plastic gasket for the outside as well as the metal bracket for the inside.
The previous owner of my truck covered the original holes up (no big deal). So my question is how do I install the inside bracket to hold the mirror in place? I took the door panel off the inside but it doesn't look like there is a way to get to where the bracket needs to go, because there is still metal covering that area. Anyone else ever encountered this and came up with a solution? I'm guessing it's something so simple I'll feel stupid after hearing it - but I'm just not seeing a good way to do this. |

You have to have looooong arms... No, really, it isn't bad with two people but almost impossible with one.. No real easy way to get the holes lined up once your helper has the plate inside the door. Just team work. LockDoc

Re: Installing reproduction side mirror
The bracket just floats inside the door. I used some string as guides to pull the bracket into place, then had my buddy reach into the door and hold the bracket in place, pulled the strings out and screwed the mirror in place.

Re: Installing reproduction side mirror
Well at least now I know I'm on the right track! Thanks for the help guys. I'll try the string idea since I'm all out of long arms
70blackfish: I'll be tackling this project on Sunday when I have some time, so check back later that night and I'll have some pictures posted on this thread for you once it's installed. For now here's the assembly instruction if it helps (no access to a scanner, so I had to take the picture with my phone): |

you could use some tape too hold it in there while your screwing the mirror on.
maybe some double sided tape and just leave it in there. sure beats trying too be stretch armstrong

Re: Installing reproduction side mirror
I used a couple of neo magnets to hold mine in place until I got the screws started. The last time I mounted mirrors in my truck I glued the plates in place so I wouldn't have to mess with it again.
