Re: bed removale help

4 guys if you don't have a chain fall. Maybe a tree if the truck runs. Drive under a branch and lift it off with a come-a-long?? Tractor with a loader?? Build an A frame type of structure like a gantry (I think that's the right name)?? I put mine on tires on a snowmobile trailer. For transport I grab a big tractor tire that basically takes up the whole underneath of the bed. Strap it down and off you go.

Re: bed removale help

I've used the engine hoist, cherry picker and multiple buddy technique. All work well.

As far as storage and transport I made a little stand out of scrap wood and the lag the box to the ends of the 4x4's through 4 of the bed bolt holes.

Re: bed removale help

Any type of hoist is the easiest, but I just removed all of the bolts, unhooked the wiring and the differential breather line (it you have one attached to the bed). Then I used a bottle jack and pieces of 4x4s to support the bed until it was high enough to clear the frame and wheels/tires and made a 2x4 frame to support the bed (2x4s located outside the bed)- then drove the truck out from under the support frame.

Haha, not really relevant but isn't that ironic?

Re: bed removale help

I take the bolts out (that part is pretty important ) then remove the grounding strap(s), unhook the taillight, and license plate light harness.
Then I jack the rear up, remove the tires, and lower it as far as the jack stands will go. Removing the tires makes it so you don't have the lift the bed over the tires.
Then with a friend or two or three it comes off really easy. If you have four guys don't worry about the tires. If it's just two, or maybe three weak people, the tires helps a lot.

I don't understand your comment - I thought the original post was about bed removal, storage and transportation.

I posted what I did (which I thought was superior to just setting it on some old tires).

Easy movement around the garage, easy movement to and from the paint shop, convenient working height and - for no cost.

Your second pic, truck pulling its own bed. As far as removal I think your options have been gone through lol.

Re: bed removale help

I built a 4' x 6' frame out of doubled 2x6's, added some swivel pneumatic tires from H/F and it works great. I can set a truck bed or cab on this frame and move it anywhere - since it has pneumatic tires, I can roll it around the yard as well. I may build a height extender for it so it's easier to sand and work on like yours, Keith.
As for removal, 4 guys and a 12-pack.

Ah - transport home from the paint shop. I drove the truck for about a week with no box on it.

There was something "so right" about lil Red helping with it's own restoration...

Yeah that's exactly what I meant, but now reading my post I see how it can be misunderstood.
