If you could use the $$ you have put into your truck & use it to buy another truck.
Would the truck you could buy be better? (and I mean a 67-72) I ask because I bought my 68 for $1000 and it looked great. But mechanically I have had to do a lot and I have spent about $3000 more. Now my goal is just a dependable, daily driver that looks decent from 30 feet away and I have got there. (Fingers crossed.) But I have seen some great trucks for $4000.
The benefits of my situation was I got to personalize it & gain experience and of course the trucks I have seen probably need work too but I still wonder. |

Re: If you could use the $$ you have put into your truck & use it to buy another truc
Great question, and of course there is no pat answer. You say you have seen some great trucks for $4000.... they may look great, but still need work just as yours has (remember, you said yours looked great too when you bought it). And you also mention the experience gained by working on your truck.
To try to answer your question..... nah, the truck you would buy wouldn't be any better. Unless you had intimate knowledge of its history and complete trust in its most recent owner.

Yeah, good point. I did learn how to budget for a truck, do a complete estimate of how much you think your going to spend then triple it. =)

If I had spent ten times what I've got into my Blazer, I still wouldn't trade it for any other truck. There's nothing else like it.
Where else can you combine "the flowing lines of a muscle car" (Popular Mechanics' words) with the off-road capability and the wind in your hair? |

I couldnt get an '85 K car for what I have into my truck(that will change in the next year). Parts for these trucks are not expensive, you can build a damn nice truck for pretty cheap. Try that with any other 42 year old vehicle, it wont happen. As for the gas milage....stop calculating it, the fun of driving that truck has to be worth more than a few extra MPG.

I was meaning could a person buy a better 67-72 for what they have put into their 67-72? I am not calculating gas mileage. It has nothing to do with my question. I am not worried about it because I have no car payment.

Re: If you could use the $$ you have put into your truck & use it to buy another truc
I bought my Blazer for 5k a little high, but it had almost no rust. I've since put about six thousand in parts in it (new engine, transmission, gears, radiator, lift kit, etc). I figure I have about 11k in it. I've seen several that looked nicer than mine for less than I have in it. I just saw one on craigslist with a nice cage and softtop which is what I want to do next and an LS swap for 10k. If the body is nice that seems like a great deal. It's been my experience though that people go cheap on a lot of the little things to make them reliable and I tend not to do that so at least I know mine is built right.

Yeah, mine has full quality parts, I don't like doing things twice or breaking down.

I'm just happy to have a chevy truck again. If I never get another vehicle I hope this one last till I die.

Re: If you could use the $$ you have put into your truck & use it to buy another truc
I think the answer for me would be yes and no. Yes because the only reason someone sells a project is because it's not worth the investment to them. Therefor you can get a truck for less then what it cost to build it (usually). And no because the sentimental value of knowing every nut and bolt on my truck is worth the investment to me. But right now there are some really great deals on some nice trucks that would cost a lot more then the asking price to build. Just my 2c

Re: If you could use the $$ you have put into your truck & use it to buy another truc
with the $$ I have in my truck i could possibly buy four or five drivers..to answer your question my answer is NO because I know exactly what has gone into my truck and other opinions of perfect does not match to my definition.

I feel the same way. Especially as of late. I think I've come to the decision to sell my current truck and go after another. Or use the money to buy all the porterbuilt stuff I want.

Re: If you could use the $$ you have put into your truck & use it to buy another truc
I've had several people make very nice and reasonable offers for Thelma ( avatar pic ) , but I'm crazy about my truck . I could sell it and finish my other project with cash left but I can't sell her . I enjoy looking at her in my garage and cruising around in her . She's my conversation peice , cause everywhere I go someone wants to talk about her , look under hood etc.

No, I started with a rust free truck and built it myself, including paint & body work. I know every inch of my truck and what everyone cant see.

I like my truck and I am keeping it, it's just that some of the deals out there make me wonder sometimes. (I better stay faithful before Anabell gives me more trouble.)
My truck - Anabell, has become a sort of mission as well. Like climbing a mountain with the prize being a truck that is better than what they sell today with no payments. |

Re: If you could use the $$ you have put into your truck & use it to buy another truc
That is actually very accurate. I was given an estimate to have my truck restored/built and my wife and I figured it up. Given how much we've spent and how much more there is to go, it will be close to triple what the original estimate was.

Yeah, it is just weird how it ends up in the end. Even when you feel like you have thought of every eventuality, possibility and even padded the numbers a bit.
