Getting Ready To Drop
First of all I just wanted to thank everyone on this board for the wealth of information that can be found here. As I stated in a previous thread, my son and I decided we needed a project we could to together and he recently choose the '70 C10 restoration and I have become the funding source . Seriously though it is providing for some valuable time with my son and I.
Anyway... we have the bed off and the front clip and cab are coming off today and I am thinking that the next step is to install a 4/6 drop kit. I am very mechanical but not a mechanic and my son is in the body work business. Any thing we need to know if advance? Also, I am looking at the drop kit form Early Classic for it seems to be popular here, any thoughts on kits and from where? Any and all feedback, comments, suggestions, etc. on this topic are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, BAT |

Re: Getting Ready To Drop
Ece kit is great, paint the spindles so they don't rust, and rent a ball joint press and replace the ball joints. Other than that, great people great parts

Re: Getting Ready To Drop
You need to notch the frame as to allow the rear axle to "tuck" up into the frame. I'm sure ECE sells them, but Porterbuilt does as well. This does require cutting the frame.

Re: Getting Ready To Drop
I wish I would have had that available when I bagged my '69. That is a sweet setup.

Re: Getting Ready To Drop
Yeah, I'm pretty stoked to install all this stuff, plan to after thanksgiving... The quality of the Porterbuilt stuff is amazing when you have it in your hands. All these boxes in the garage are killing me.

Thanks for the heads up, would not have known otherwise. I am about a week or 2 away from pulling the trigger on this, anything else I need to know?

Re: Getting Ready To Drop
You NEED a kit with shock relocators for the rear. Porterbuilt also sells this (pictured above.) They have a nice new upper and lower shock cross member. Of course, if it isn't in the budget, you could go a cheaper route.

Re: Getting Ready To Drop
Do you have a link for their products? I went to the site in the pic but could not find a valid products page. FYI, the ECE kit has shock relocators in case anyone is wondering but I definitely want to check out Porterbuilt as well before I lay down the cash.
