Pre Runner ? for a friend

Ok i have an old friend that came to me with an idea that I thought was kinda cool but not sure how easy it would go together or workout for what he wants.

So here is what he wants to try. He wants a to make his '76 2wd c10 into a pre runner but no one makes kits any more but he has an older 80-90s ford f-150 with a 6" pre runner lift with the twin I-beam front end. He came to me with the Idea of swaping the front half of the frame or at least finding a way to put the lifted I-beams and stuff on his C10. Just looking for some input on what you guys think of the idea. I think it could be cool but not sure how it will workout.

Thanks for reading looking forward to your comments.

Re: Pre Runner ? for a friend

How much lift does he want?
Would adding a set of 3/4-ton or 1-ton front springs be enough?

I've seen some people adapt the 88-98 2wd lift spindles to the 73-87 trucks.

Re: Pre Runner ? for a friend

He wants 4-6" and lots of wheel travel. Thats y he was thinking of useing the ford front end. Ive seen the newer spindle lift and he has looked it over but he doesnt think he would get the wheel travel he wants. Hes wanting a some what hard core dune truck but still something easy to fix and get parts for and still drive around

This might now be exactly what he is after, but it is a good article on the Pre-Runner topic.

Located in our FAQ forum "73-87 2wd lift with 33x10.5x 18 Nittos"

Ya I love Dino's truck.

The only thing about the newer lift spindle is he worrys about it being super stiff.

Re: Pre Runner ? for a friend

I have the newer lift spindles on my truck and with my springs it is not stiff at all. it rides really nice. you can mess around with a custom coil over setup to get alot of travel with these lift spindles.

Re: Pre Runner ? for a friend

lifted spindles will not make the suspension stiffer or softer or gain any "wheel travel". all it does is allow for bigger tires and not change the geometry in the front end.

Re: Pre Runner ? for a friend

hey guys, i started a thread awhile back about a prerunner, found the solution. http://giantmotorsports.com/content/view/85/105/ they have the entire front i beam setup for a prerunner. bolts right on. then if you have a coil rear suspension swap trailing arms on top of rearend.

Re: Pre Runner ? for a friend

Hey Guys, I am trying to do a pre-runner style lift on my 66 GMC 3/4t 2wd. What about using the front leaf spring suspension off of a newer 4x4 and instead of the front differential just use a straight axle like on a gasser? This would also allow me to upgrade my front drums to disc brakes. Btw, jimmeyerracing.com has a leaf spring gasser front end for 5 or 6 lug wheels. I want to keep my 8 lug setup.

Re: Pre Runner ? for a friend

straight axle conversion has been done before. I looked at companies years ago that do have components (cant remember if bolt on or weld on) for all of the hangers. being 2wd you may have an added bonus because you will have the streering box in the right position to do a cross over steering.

this is why i went with spindles. the ride is only affected by the springs you use, but these spindles are very beefy which will allow for lots of custom modifications later on. you can get 8 lug lift spindles.

also a straight axle prerunner would not flex enough at high speed lke IFS, just my 2 cents
