Transmission bell housing question
After I got the body off the frame if my 65 I discovered a broken motor mount and broken bell housing on my transmission. My question is are the bell housings the same from a 3 speed and a 4 speed? Or will I need a different 4 speed housing? Thanks

Re: Transmission bell housing question
Should work no problem. For reference, I used my stock 3-speed trans bell housing when I swapped in my T5 and I used an 11" Astro Van clutch and it all fit fine. So I think you're good to go. 3 and 4-speeds should have the same i/p shaft length and mounting bolt pattern, etc, so all you really need to do is make sure the spline count is the same (or, if it's not, get a new clutch disk of same diameter - or a clutch/pressure plate combo with correct spline count)

Re: Transmission bell housing question
The 68 up has a different size opening for the front retainer, but you should be fine on the 65.

Re: Transmission bell housing question
I guess I should have specified that it is a 65 3 speed transmission that I would be using the bellhousing off of.

Re: Transmission bell housing question
That will work just fine as long as it was bolted to a Chevy engine and not a GMC V6. The transmission side is the same for a 3 speed or 4 speed, and '67 and earlier.
