Air bag suspension on 95 suburban chassis
Hello guys im new here. I need some help. Im restoring a 1950 Buick Convertible, I remove the original chassis and I adapt a 2wd 1995 Suburban chassis which I think is very much the same like a 95 truck.
Im installing a LS1 and 4L60e combo with the rear end of a 1998 camaro on it. Im thinking on using air bag suspension, to make it handle and sit at right height. I have no experience with air suspension and have some questions: 1. Where is a good place to buy a kit for my aplication, good quality and good price? I contact a company BC Fabrication any comments? 2. what is better to use manual or electic valves? I really no matter about how fast the car is going up and down, just want something that last and make no problems. 3. Air bag suspension always have leaks problems? thanks for the help and any advices |

Re: Air bag suspension on 95 suburban chassis
There are certain pros and cons to manual vs. electric valves. The electric valves will allow the use of a automatic leveling system and can be easier sometimes to just run wires inside the cab. Manual however, is cheaper, but have to run 1/4" air line into the cab and no option for automatic leveling.
And air bag suspension can be very reliable and trouble free if set up properly. Constant leaks are due to cheap fittings and not using proper sealant. We recommend DOT approved fittings and using Loctite 545 for sealant. We can definitely help you out with air ride and any questions you may have, as well as getting you the components that fit your budget and goal for the car. There is everything from mild to wild, but you can have a good, reliable air suspension system with quality components without going all out. Just give me a call and would be glad to help out and go over everything. Travis 480-420-8175 |

Re: Air bag suspension on 95 suburban chassis
The front suspension is the same as a truck but i think the rear of the frame is different then a truck so a universal 4 link would be used.A air ride system is relieable if install right most problems are from installer errors.Things like using a air line tubing cutter will cut the line straight if you try it by hand with a knife or razor blade it won't be a straight cut and the air fittings need a straight cut to seal fully. And keep the air lines away from heat like the exhaust and moving parts like the drive shaft.

Re: Air bag suspension on 95 suburban chassis
I've built a 95 suburban and the rear is different than the trucks. you are correct that the front is the same. on my build I used ridetech uppers and lowers and in the back i modified a bolt-on kp components 6-link kit to fit the frame.
Here's the thread and i tried to get you to the 'building' portion.

Re: Air bag suspension on 95 suburban chassis
On the valves manual is most simple but you have to run the air lines in your cab to the switch. Most of us on here run the electric valves its easier to hide the switches anywhere you want them. The camaro is kinda a 3 link it has 2 lower links and a torque arm and a panhard bar.You could keep the lower links and make your own uppers and do a triangulated 4 link with it.The rear bags you can mount them on the lower links or straight to the axle depends how much clearance you have.

I've only ever used electric valves. SMC is a decent brand, i currently run accuair on my tahoe. I've gotten my parts from all over as I'm a tech nerd and search the net hardcore for deals on stuff. AVS is nice stuff with good pricing and easy shipping.
