Testing a Jumping Speedometer

Forgot to post this but i was having an issue with a speedo jumping on me at low speeds. I decided to do process of elim and figured out this little trick to bench test the speedo. I got a Q-Tip and put on end into a drill and put the other end of the Q-Tip in the back of the SpeedO housing. You can pull the trigger on the drill and test low mph all the way up to 75 mph (as fast as my 9.6v dewalt would turn) as a bench test. SpeedO was good, Turned out to be the upper cable. Hope this might help someone in the future.

I think that this is the issue with mine. You can hear it grinding likes its right behind the cluster.

Re: Testing a Jumping Speedometer

Unhook.the cable from the speedo head and put a light oil down thr cable. Should loosen cable and smooth out the jumping needle.

Re: Testing a Jumping Speedometer

I had that problem too...but mine turned out to be multiple speedos...I finally got one that works after replacing the speedo cable, greasing the new cable, and buying several clusters from pull a part lol
