Please help...
Got off work tonight and managed to start the truck no problem but as I was headed home my cluster lights got dimmer and dimmer unit they shut off along with the head lights and turn signals would stay solid when trying to be used then the seat belt buzzard lit up and was buzzing until I got home. Parked it shut it off then tried starting it again and wouldn't try turning over. What would cause this any help much appreciate since I have to work again tomorrow. Thanks

Re: Please help...
sounds like your alternator is'nt charging your battery, your headlights sucked all the juice out of your battery. check your connections first, then test or replace your alt.

Re: Please help...
Check the belt and make sure it's there and check tension too. Start with the battery connections, then go down to the starter, and then to the back of the alternator. If they all look good and are tight pull the alternator and have it checked at a parts store. Another check is to put a voltmeter on the battery terminals just after you start the engine and see what voltage is there...check the battery voltage with the engine off first to give you a base line. With the engine running it should be around 13-15 volts, and with the engine off just over 12 volts.

Re: Please help...
x2 what rcbildr says, also check the battery voltage. i replaced my alt. couple years ago,90 amp- $100, but i live north of the border. depending on how many amps, you should be able to pick up an alt. from about $40 up

Re: Please help...
So I replaced the alternator for about 35 bucks. The tested the old one at the store and said it passed but the bearings went bad. Could this chase issues to even tho it passed?

Re: Please help...
Don't think so unless the pulley was seized preventing it from spinning

Re: Please help...
Well the pulley was causing it to spin so idk what else could cause it. I did make it to work with it today maybe there is some kind of freak accident going on with it. I just find it hard to believe what the store manager told me about the bearings going bad causing it to not charge the battery, and I hate to question the guys knowledge of vehicles but this is my only d/d.

[QUOTE=BRUISER;5772856]Did you check the belt?
Posted via Mobile Device[/QUO Yeah the belt is spinning the new alternator I put on just fine. Im wondering why my old alternator that I already took back was not charging my battery, when it passed the stores tests and the only thing that was bad in the darn thing was the bearings. |
