Anyone see anything wrong???
Redone the passenger side rear drum brake today. Still gotta do the driver's side. Maybe one day soon. Anyway, here is what I found when I took the drum off:

It's missing the self adjuster arm.

You are correct Sir! Sorry there are no prizes.
I'm not sure what the person was thinking who cobbled this together!

Notice the shoes look almost new with no wear? My drums were 1/4 inch bigger inside than the replacements. I wonder if the shoes were even touching them when I hit the brakes?

I don't know about that. It sat in a warehouse for a few years before I got it. It had a tommy lift bed and a ladder rack too. I would like to know how long they drove it like that though.

Re: Anyone see anything wrong???
I have made a practice of buying spring kits every time I replace shoes that I have not seen before. It's funny how many times I have found parts missing or installed wrong.

Re: Anyone see anything wrong???
The thing is we meet trucks like that in the road hundreds if not thousands of times as day hauling who knows what and way way overloaded. Every day out of the drive way is a war zone, it could make you crazy if you stop and think about it. It just almost did me!!

But there are people like us who love and care for our trucks and their safety as well as our fellow man . I was not implying that any of our members here are wreckless or careless with no regaurd for safety.

Re: Anyone see anything wrong???
just rebuilt mine too - had to un-frazzle some PO stuff as well, ha. for those that are curious, here's an after picture that shows the stuff installed (3/4 ton, but similar):

Re: Anyone see anything wrong???
I got the drivers side done this afternoon. Same thing as passenger, missing the self adjuster and the wrong springs were used. At least the PO was symetrical!
Of course taking the brake lines out of the wheel cylinders didn't work as planned and now I have to replace both rear lines. I checked the cost of Inline Tube and it wasn't that bad for the two. Not sure if I feel like bending them myself or ordering a pre-bent set.

Re: Anyone see anything wrong???
I redid mine last spring and it was all there but the e brake cable was broke, i left it like that because i carry chocks and after my first run in with a full float rear axle i didnt feel like messing with it but i have self adjusters good springs one new wheel cylinder ( all the parts store had) and a new set of shoes i dont wanna do that again soon took me two days after work before it got dark to get it going and still had to go back and replace a line and a bleeder valve on the new wheel cylinder because the muffler shop got too crazy with a torch
