running cardboard in frotn of radiator for better heat. but how warm is too warm?
Alright I'm running a chuck of cardboard in front of the radiator on my '66 to improve the heat in the truck, yes i know it sounds crazy but they did it a lot back in the day! it covers a little more than 1/4 of the radiator, but we've got a warm spell here in NJ and want to know at what outside temperature should i remove this cardboard? above 45 degrees?

They did that to keep the radiator from plugging up, and from running too cold.
You're better off changing to a warmer thermostat. I run a 180 in the winter, and a 160 in the summer. (Georgia winter, so it's anywhere from 30-degrees to 70!) -Brad

well i know that they did it to keep it from running too cold, which is partly why i did it. the truck runs at 165 degrees idling and in around 40 degree weather. do for a temporary fix i did the cardboard trick and it's helped out a lot.

That is a trick a lot of diesel owners do as well. I would say anything from 190-200 is about as hot as I would want to get.
