Roll on Bed liners
In a couple of months when the weather warms up a bit I am going to do the DIY roll on bed liner in my cab instead of carpet. I currently have a set of heavy duty type floor mats, and they will stay or better one will take there place if I can find better fitting ones.
Which of the brands hold up the best? I will but the gallon kit, and use it up with as many coats as I can get out of it. If it has a soft touch rubber feel that would be cool, as opposed to extremely rough. I don't want to do a Line-X as it to much for my budget, and while floor mats will cover wear areas. |

Re: Roll on Bed liners
For awhile, I was seriously planning on doing this to mine, but then I decided against it completely.
DIY bedliners are never really dry. It's like rattle can spray paint that relies on solvent evaporation. My concern was that there would be a significant amount of fumes being released over a long period of time that wouldn't really have anywhere to go. For a truck bed it's not an issue, it's outside. The last thing I wanted was my truck making me nauseous every time I drove it. Now professional spray in liners, are either sprayed in hot then the cooling process hardens them, or they use a catalyst/activator to make the liner chemically dry, very quickly.

Re: Roll on Bed liners
I am still on the fence with mine. When did Line-X get so expensive?
I was looking at this one as an option. It had the best reviews I could find. U-Pol

Re: Roll on Bed liners
I tore the carpet out of my old jeep and did the entire interior with a gallon roll on kit. The can gave options for a smooth or rough finish. Sorry I can't remember what brand. It's been 7 or 8 years. I never had any problems with fumes and loved the easy clean up. Planning on doing my plow truck the same way in the spring. I put Herculiner in the bed of my 07 silverado in July but I haven't beat on it enough to make a recommendation yet.

Re: Roll on Bed liners
I'm a Raptor Liner man personally. It's a two part catalyzed product so it cures chemically and not via solvent evaporation. A 1 gallon kit will do about two cabs. It's somewhere around 120 dollars for a 1 gallon kit with the liner, catalyst, and the dedicated spray gun for it.
I did this cab with half of the kit (it comes in 4 individual quart bottles) and will be doing my current truck with the remaining half of the kit when it warms up a bit this spring. |

Re: Roll on Bed liners
Looks good. I'll have to try it this spring. Do they have any color options? Or just black?

Re: Roll on Bed liners
They have the black and they have tintable that you can add your desired paint to.
109 bucks for the kit, your choice of black or tintable... http://www.tptools.com/p/2600,186_U-...Liner-Kit.html |

I have used herculiner im not sure but im thinking you can still get it. I used it in the bed of my truck in 99 its still there and I used it when I had my jeep on the floors. it has worked real well for me and you can paint it. I replaced my tailgate and a friend let me have some duplicolor he had left over to do the tailgate. the 2 products aren't even comparable

Re: Roll on Bed liners
As far as fumes goes....I had to let it dry for a few days...I would leave the doors open most the day and close them at night

Re: Roll on Bed liners
I used Rustoleum in the bed of my 71 I built. It looked ok but thats about it. It is not good for much except to look at. It scratches real easy. it is not very thick even though i used 4 coats. not good for sound deadening or insulation. Bottom line dont use Rustoleum bedliner.

Re: Roll on Bed liners
I sanded entire bed down with 100 grit with an orbital sander and loose sheets by hand. I then washed it out good and wiped down with acetone for prep. After alot of research/reviews I decided to go with Herculiner versus the duplicolor water based bed armor with kevlar. The kit comes with 1 gallon but I used about 1-1/2 gallon with 2 coats. Autozone and other parts stores sell the kit and is normally in stock.

Re: Roll on Bed liners
Thanks guys for your help.
I think I will go for the Raptor liner because it is spray in, and will be easier for my lazy self. |

Re: Roll on Bed liners
yes if you can spray yourself it will be much much easier, just remember with any kit you choose its the preparation like sanding/cleaning that makes it.
