CB Radios
Anybody running a CB in their rig? I was thinking about putting one in mine just for the nostalgia feel.... is that stupid? I bought an indash 8 track/CB combo on ebay but it came broken so I installed a Ken Harrison cassette deck. The CB would have to go under dash.... or roof mount maybe?

Re: CB Radios
I remember as kids we played on Dad's CB in the 64 GMC stepside-it was cool to talk with folks-back then, few folks even had telephones out here in stixville. I've got one, thought about installing it, but haven't. I did install a spotlight though.

Re: CB Radios
I installed coax and power for a CB yesterday. I run 1 in all my vehicles. Have since 1973.

Re: CB Radios
Just curious, do you still find a fair amount of people still using CBs? Regardless, I plan on installing my ol' CB in the C10. I look at my truck as a rolling piece of history so the CB is a more than welcomed addition.

Re: CB Radios
I've had a CB in every truck I've ever owned. Currently I have a Galaxy 88 that I've been using for the last 15 years.
The usage of CB's seem to be a regional thing. Southern CA doesnt have a lot but most of the south west, mid west, and south east US have a lot of users. North west and North east US seem to be moderate usage. On the west coast channel 17 is popular with highway travel. The rest of the country typically sticks with channel 19. Local areas tend to have their own preference for what channel to use. Here in Ventura the local chatter is usually on channel 5. When I was in Denver the local chatter tended to be on channel 11. So when you put in a CB just spend a little time on each channel until you find the one your local area tends to settle on. Just remember that channel 9 is the emergency channel. Most law enforcement still monitor that channel for emergency calls, even today. |

I too, have a radio in all my rigs except this one---yet. Galaxy DX66 in my Ram, small Rat Shack 40 ch in my yukon, and an older small Cobra in my daily driver Breeze. Have about 10-12 other radios sitting around my shack as well as about half a dozen handhelds and a Navaho base. Nice to see others here on the forum are interested in radios as well. |

Re: CB Radios
I'll have one in my '61 Suburban when I get to the paint and interior phase.
I've put over 60,000 miles on it, including road trips through 20 different states. It'd be REAL nice to talk with the truckers and find out why and how far traffic is backed up, alternate routes, where the cops are, etc. -Brad

Re: CB Radios
I run an RCI 2950 in my Tacoma and a small Uniden in my Avalon. I'll probably pickup another Uniden for the Burb. Haven't decided what to do for the MH.
The Burb will get a stainless steel whip in the left rear panel. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: CB Radios
I've seen several of these on Ebay and thought about picking one up but I'm not sure if the square body radios will fit in the 64-66 hole. Although the one you have looks like a Caddy or Olds or some kind of car radio with the big wood trim face plate. Nice find.

Re: CB Radios
I orignaly bought the Uniden for my 1997 Toyota T-100. I bolted into the dash right under the radio. Double Din mount made it look like a factory option. The Uniden has the front mount speaker. I use it in my Durango for off road trips. Not so much on the road. Started useing hand helds for desert race photos just to keep in touch. They seem to reach more range.

Re: CB Radios
Another use for CB radios is all the communications for Land Speed Racing at Bonneville, etc. are done over CB.
