Anyone running or have heard the newer flowmaster super 10 muffler in 3"??

This is not a thread to discuss different mufflers and how they sound. I have been a flowmaster 40 series freak my whole life. Since my new motor is going to another level, I thought I'd entertain perhaps a different flowmaster muffler. Part of what is hard is that I don't know just how much more agressive of a sound I am going to gain simply from jumping from the 1.75 header and 2.5 exhaust up to the 2" headers with a 3" system, both using a 40 series. They now have a super 10 and a super 40. That super 10 seems like it could actually be just a bit too much. That leaves the super 40, original 40 and I guess the super 44. Has anyone gone from one to the other???

My buddy did. Way too loud and tons of popping, If you had 500hp+ it might be a good setup. I went with 2.5in with Super 44s. Couldn't be happier.

Re: Anyone running or have heard the newer flowmaster super 10 muffler in 3"??

my brother has an 08 silverado vortec with a 3.5" super 10, sounds fantastic very aggressive and with his truck its quiet until you get above 2k. my 68 has dual 2.5 super 10s exiting out the back and im surprised how much quieter it is compared to just dumping behind the cab. i love them. its really not that bad until you romp on it. i have no sound control at all in my cab though so at freeway speeds it does get quite loud, but thats more the motor turning than the exhaust note. 4.56 in the back with 28" tires it spins up pretty high at 65..

Hmmm......what if it was a 600+ motor???

This is a big motor (496) with no cats and driven very little. I guess I just have a little hangup with how short they are. Short to me has always meant a little rap to it.

stock motor, going from original 40s to super 44's made a bit of a difference. Definitely more aggressive, but if I already had 40s I wouldn't go out of my way to swap them. Couldn't tell you about the 10s

I am leaning toward the Super 44. I thought the number of the muffler denoted the agressive sound. Higher was more mellow and vise versa. Guess that's not the case. That Super 44 might just be the was to go.

Great video! If they would just sheet-can their background music so I could really hear. I think it's going to be the 44's. Just don't want to chance the 10's. Thanks for posting guys!

Yea I know the music shouldnt be playin. WHen I had my 64 chevy it had a later 80's stock 350/th350 and it had dual flowmaster 40s with 2 1/4 pipes and they were loud. I could only imagine 10's on them.

I don't really mind loud given the theme of this truck. There is a fine line though between quality and sounding loud/agressive and something that sounds like sheet/ratty.

I really dig your Texaco painting on the truck. I'm sure you added that. Looks pretty beliveable!

Re: Anyone running or have heard the newer flowmaster super 10 muffler in 3"??

I personally don't care for the higher pitch of the Super 44's. I like the deeper, throatier tone of the Super 40's. From that video, the Super 44's made that Musi BB sound more like a high winding small block, but the Super 40's kept it sounding more like a Big Block. I know it's all about preference, and it's more about yours since you're the one spending the money. You did ask for opinions, though, and that's mine.

Of course, that's if you want it loud. I personally lked the subtle tone of the 50 series. Don't be Hatin'!

Honestly I bought it that way. It's a bit of a love/hate relationship. I really like the Texaco theme, but I hate the lettering itself. Too small for such a big truck in my opinion, and the letters aren't all the same size. You know, stuff only the owner would really care about haha.

And yeah, 2" headers would really wake it up. My brother has a stock 400 small block with super 40s and headers and its much louder than mine. I'd love to get a set, but I don't want to cheap out, and I don't have the money for a good set at the moment. Factor in that it would be a BB and a give it a nice lopey cam and it'll turn into one of those beasts that you can feel in your chest when it drives by.

I'm not sure you have it right. The original 40s have the higher pitch than both the super 44s and 40s with the delta flow tech....at least that's the way I understood it.

I can assure you that the last thing my 496 is going to sound like is a small block, regardless of the muffler. lol Remember that the muffler plays a part and the size of the sewer pipe leading to the muffler plays another. 2" headers to a 3" system will bring the note down.

I have the super 40's out the back (no sound clip) and with full length headers it was loud.
when the 496 going back in i'm looking at magnaflow. I like the sleeper rumble until you open them up. and they flow better. Will have to see where the budget is at when the time comes.

I just got off the phone with Flowmaster again and wanted to give YOU the credit for being correct. He said the 44 is great for motors in the HP range of 400 or so and can create a deeper note down low but can get a little higher pitched in the upper rpm range. He said it would not be right for my combo because of the higher compression and horsepower. He said the super 40 will sound like Jesus is coming back and will sound unreal when I hit the little pedal. That is what I am going with.

Yeah, a buddy of mine has a 66 Nova with a "massaged" ZZ502. He had the Super 44's on it for a short while, then went to Magnaflows. It doesn't sound like a Big Block with either muffler. I had Super 40's on my cam only 350 with 2.5" pipes, and it sounded throatier than his car. If one likes the "Flowmaster sound", the Super 40's probably have the best sound.
