Ol John Lee Don't Like Ice!
And we in the Sandhills area of NC are hunkered down in the first ice storm in years. Jeep Liberties tail up vertical in the ditches with only the first 1/16" of ice on the road.
Ol John Lee let me know on the 40 mile trip home, he don't like ice. A 2.92 first coupled to a 3.73 final drive is great for spinnin the rear wheels even with a motor that makes carbon mushrooms on the plugs in as little as 400 miles. Wow, northern driving skills came back to me quick,,,second gear starts, 25 under the limit and never use the breaks....home safe and headin for the bat cave with a load of wood to make Shaker Cupboards on my lovely afternoon off....ya see, within 15 minutes of the sleet startin, Central NC is all but shut down!! I love the south....Finally Home, NC! |

Re: Ol John Lee Don't Like Ice!
4200 lbs of good American Steel...squashing VWs like chipmonks, mushing Nissans like Copperheads and crunchin Toyota Titans like popin the furry heads off lil squirrlies with the a flick of the steering wheel to wang em with a tire, rollin Smart Cars under the chassis like Texas Armydildos (I can't spell Armadillo, sorry!). Its all good, Ol John Lee is the King of the Sandhills, everybody gets outin tha way 'cause they say "That there fella in that beater blu truck prolly ain't got no insurance Mable, move da hell over and let em by!"

Re: Ol John Lee Don't Like Ice!
We got a no crap vertical truck in fronna the house...tapped his brakes down the hill, slid left and stood up on his nose in a 2 foot deep ditch...the roof is wrapped around a tree and the back hatch is facein straight up to the sky. Pretty sad, folks can't get down the last .25 mile to the house in a 4 wheel drive vehicle!....Good gosh how fast he was goin to do a nosie against a tree and a 2 foot ditch....I'm stayin in an playin in the Bat Cave with the increadible finger chopper (table saw) till this stuff melts tomorrow morning.

Re: Ol John Lee Don't Like Ice!
What part of Sanford are you in? I lived on 24/27 in the bad curve before BBQ for years.. Many an idiot driver ended up sideways or upside down in our yard. Do not miss that...
Didnt even bother leaving the house today. Even in the north, when it was icy there is no point. Not only do the folks not know how to drive, they don't have shoulders and don't treat the roads. Hell, I remember years ago when I lived in Robeson county, they used sawdust on the ice on the roads... that worked well... yeah right. |

Re: Ol John Lee Don't Like Ice!
I'm on the west side, off SteelBridge Road several miles out past the Y where 42 west breaks off...
There was an insurance seminar at the gate at Ft Bragg, 6 cars and a stake truck on the bridge there in Spring Lake....what a cluster. |

Re: Ol John Lee Don't Like Ice!
When Bragg was wide open it was easy around there. When they locked it down, it got to be a bit of a cluster when anything happens. Was between there and Parkton (renting) for 8 years or so. Its a different world outside of Charlotte, this way.

Re: Ol John Lee Don't Like Ice!
I'm hopein for an early out this year...got enough in the 401K to buy land for cash and sell this place and take the retirement check and just make furnature, drive my truck and hunt.
I really do need to reengine the fleet though....see I mighta fibbed a lil bout them cars. I sorta got passed by an Acord with a Fart Can and then I got passed by the Smart Car....Shameful. But me and Ol John Lee got home safe and sound and he got another quart of oil to make them carbon mushrooms with and I'm sippin a bourbon and life is great! Finally Home, NC. |

Re: Ol John Lee Don't Like Ice!
Welcome to Sanford N.C. I just saw you lived here also. Im out in the deep river area. I was down at the crown collisum friday night at the monster truck jam when all that ice was coming in. My trusty 04 tahoe 4x4 got us home with the roads covered in ice, no problems at all, got home around midnight. Ill be looking for Ol John Lee now. We will have to meet up someday.

Re: Ol John Lee Don't Like Ice!
Freezing rain and ice here overnight. I'm gonna work from home. I gladly admit to being a Calif. boy that never learned how to drive in this frozen crap. I'm also smart enough to stay home where I'm safe from all the idiots with 4WD. They just never learn that it doesn't help 1 bit with stopping.

Re: Ol John Lee Don't Like Ice!
We're okay in the Sandhills...schools are 2 hour delay but the primary roads Sanford and South seem to be fine. Ol John Lee didn't bust 50 on the way to work this morning so I prolly saved a half quart of oil on that trip...woo hoo! Thats like a $2 rebate per trip!
