New Guy Here, and I brought my 66

Hey there. Just joined up a few weeks ago. Gotta say, I think I'm home. I bought a 66 Long Bed 2 months ago. I have so many questions and a ton of plans for my new project. Here are a few pics.

Welcome. Looks like she's been lowered and swapped to 5 lugs. What are your future plans?

Re: New Guy Here, and I brought my 66

Thanks. Yea, she's got a 350 under the hood and disc brakes too. Trying to find out more. I don't know if it was lowered the right way. I have a feeling it was dropped with the old coil cutting method. It has some really bad camber and the steering seems a little rigged.

Future plans:
- Goin Lower. I want it as slammed as I can get it by not cutting up the bed too bad. I still want to use the bed for hauling stuff around.
- Smoothies and white walls
- new chrome all around
- new wood in the bed
- new interior: I want to make it seem like you are sitting in a Mercedes, not a beat up old Chevy truck. Stitched dash, headliner, heated seats, A/C, power windows, custom center console, etc...
- LED and HID lights all around

I'm sure I'll think of more. I already have a few boxes full of new parts.

Welcome to the forum

What's up with that bumper? Does your truck have a '67-'72 frame? That would explain the bumper.

Well, crap! How do I know if its a 67-72 frame? Anything obvious I should look for. It would explain a lot.

Welcome!

Don't worry about it being a 67-72 frame, you can always change out the frame horns! Do you have power brakes or drums in the front?

Well, you have a head start! I had drums on my '65 and had to convert to 73' setup for disc brakes.

You have unlimited supply of information and support here on the forum. Everyone here is super nice and helpful. I would be lost without the Forum.

Now pickup those wrenches and get to work!

Well, one indicator would be if you look under the bumper and realize that if you flip the bumper over you could get the other two bolts to fit in it.

Considering the 5 lug wheels and the disc brakes, it makes it much more likely that the frame has been swapped.

I was thinking the same thing. The guy I bought it from has 2 60-66 short beds, 1 Suburban, 1 Panel, 2 67-72 Long Beds, and a 72 Blazer, and a few other cars, all in parts! a cab here, a bed there... Make sense now that he swapped the frame with some other stuff he had. It was like a mini wrecking yard in this guys back yard.

I'll take a peek at the bumper. I'm getting ready to order some bumpers, so I'll pay a little attention to that.

Thanx for the warm welcome. This is going to be fun.

Re: New Guy Here, and I brought my 66

You're fine if it is a 67-72 frame.
It's the 73 and up frames that require many mods and still don't look right.

Re: New Guy Here, and I brought my 66

You can also check the VIN number on the frame and see if it matches the cab. There are some differences between the '63-'66 frames and the '67-'72 frames.

The main reason I would worry about a different frame is if you need to have a VIN inspection.
