what gauges are supposed to light up when key is turned to on position

Alright I'm curious to know which gauge lights are supposed to light up whenever i go to start my 1966 C10. right now the only one that lights up is the "GEN" light for the generator. is the green cold light supposed to come on when the truck is cold? what about the oil light before you start the truck?

Yes both the cold light and oil light are supposed to be illuminated when the key is in the on position, engine cold and not running.

Re: what gauges are supposed to light up when key is turned to on position

On my 6 cylinder, the thermo sender is towards the front of the engine, to the right of where the large radiator hose goes into the engine. If you haven't, confirm that the light green and dark green wires are connected to the thermo sender.

If the wires are connected, I've heard it might not be working because the sender's threads have been wrapped with teflon tape, which keeps it from being grounded and prevents a signal to the temp gauge bulbs. Also could be a short in the wires or bad thermo sender.

Test sender. Temporarily ground the wire from the o/p-sender; with ign. on, your oil light should glow. If it does, replace the sender.
