What year doors will fit a 72 GMC.
I am going to look at a 72 GMC short bed 4x4 tomorrow and it will be needing doors. Just curious what years if not all will fit it and if there is any difference between the chevy and gmc. I know the earlier years the fenders and hoods varied. Anything I should pay special attention to. I don't know alot about these years. I was told there is rust in the door post, cab corners, and floors. Not sure how bad yet.

Re: What year doors will fit a 72 GMC.
All doors will fit but 72 had different inner panel making crank handle longer and there is a screw for the vent window older models didn't have 72 only

Re: What year doors will fit a 72 GMC.
That's the main diffrence cause the handles and panels can be switched. If your not going for 100 percent original any year door of this style will work gmc or chevy

Well if that's a 72. It's got the trim missing on the fenders to match the grille

Re: What year doors will fit a 72 GMC.
Not sure its worth the $2500 he is asking. Needs cab corners, floor board work, door post have rust in them, and will need at least one door and that is just what he told me on the phone. Getting ready to go look at it now.

Re: What year doors will fit a 72 GMC.
I went and looked at it today. It needs more than I thought or was told. The cab and passenger had been side swiped. The whole cab side behind the door was pushed in pretty good. Some one had cut holes on each side of the bed like they had put dual tanks on it like the 80's style short beds. They had riveted aluminum plateds over the holes. The floor of the bed had spots towards the tailgate that were rotted through. No tailgate. Floor boards by the cab corners had big holes in them.
I just shot him an email since he wasn't there and told him I might give him $1000 since pretty much every panel needed some attention. But I think even that might be a bit much. I would really like to have it but not for what he is asking. It also had what looked like about 4-6" lift blocks under the front and rear springs to give it the lift. Also all the side trim was missing. I could see the holes where the clips for the trim used to be thought. It had been sitting for the last year and a half and I was told it was running a bit rough. Maybe from stale gas or maybe bigger issues. I didn't even hear it run, the rest of the truck needed more attention so I wasn't to worried about the engine. I have a good running small block for one anyway.

Re: What year doors will fit a 72 GMC.
Those tank holes u are talking about we're common on these trucks most of them had those aluminum door covers but does sound like a bit of work

And what a hunt it has been. Short bed 4x4's are kind of hard to find around here.

Re: What year doors will fit a 72 GMC.
I have found that short bed 4x4 trucks typically command a premium over almost any other truck in the same condition, especially 3/4 tons. However I have also found that GMC's don't bring as much as chevys... If the cab is repairable with minimum work he will probably get within 90% of his asking price.

Re: What year doors will fit a 72 GMC.
Yeah that is one problem. The other problem I have is not having deep pockets. Since I am in the middle of mild restoration on my 85 short bed I am just looking for something that was in the price range as the one above if not a little cheaper. And for that there is not alot out there. If there is it is hard for me to justify spending that kind of money for something that needs dang near every panel replaced or worked on.

Re: What year doors will fit a 72 GMC.
probably not to bad a price on a swb 4x4 if the under carriage is all original, IMO its a $2000 truck. And as was said above this truck can't be compared to a 2wd at all, and GMC's don't bring as much as chevy's
