front rotors without brake booster or new m.c.?

A friend of mine added front disc brakes and never changed out his master cylinder, or added a booster or even brake lines. Has anyone done this? He said all he did was hook new brake hoses to the calipers and swears that it stops great. I have a whole set up off of an 84 and I'm tempted to try it too. I guess if it feels like crap I can just add a proportion valve, booster and m.c. thoughts?

Whatever you try, my thoughts are you should, at a minimum, install a dual-line master cyl. And while doing that, why not get a proper m-c at the same time? (A 1971 m-c for [power or manual] disc brakes is less than $20 for a good re-mfg'd one--O'reilly's, Advance A/P, etc)

I have a mc but its a power one. I didn't realize they were that cheap. I guess I might as well do it right. Lol.

IIRC, you'll find that in 1971 they used the same mc for manual AND power. Why? I don't know, they just did!? (Check part numbers for each on one of those suppliers' site and double-check for sure.)

So do recapped tires--but I feel like new/virgin ones are MUCH safer? Same with dual-line m-c--it cuts the odds of bodily harm, when a wheel cylinder blows, to 1/2--which is pretty substantial when it's MY body that is at stake.

Twice as much safety is what I was harping about--not how well it works.

Shooter, What vehicle did you get your brakes off of and how did you hook up your brake lines?
