Re: Custom bumpers?

i didn't do anything to the front yet.i'm still thinking that one over.on the rear,i only have the two outside brackets.no inner's.it's plenty strong enough.unless you plan on stepping up on it all the time or something..so,i just slotted, elongated, whatever you wanna call it,the two frontward mounting holes in the bracket itself.this allow's you to slide it forward as much as you like, although you are limited on how close you can slot till you run out of bracket material.it's a real simple no cost mod.i don't really have a measurment of how much it slid in.maybe 3/4's to an 1 inch? it's been awhile.the only real downside is your tailgate will not open all the way with this mod.but i just haul ass and air.and with it not being a d.d it isn't a big deal to me.but,if you plan on using your tailgate you may wanna do something different.

Re: Custom bumpers?

can you not lower bumper any so the tailgate can clear? I like the idea of the elongated holes. did you trim off any of the edges? I really wanna do this mod, but if I am unable to use my tailgate it would be pointless to do it at this time. Do you have any pics of the brackets after you modified them?

i don't have any bracket pics at this time.....you can slide it in to the point of your tailgate barely clearing.even that would bring it in a little.and close up the gap.as far as down.i'm not sure you will be able to.all i did was drill a hole in the bracket next to the exsisting hole and filed away the remainder.if i remember correctly that put's you out close to the edge of the bracket, where you couldn't slot it any further.this allows you to slide it in to the point of darn near touching.

Re: Custom bumpers?

I made some push bars at work, sent them out for plating. 10" long x 1" dia. They look good and the tubular control arms set it off. I like it and i guess thats the important part. Can't load pic's because they are in my documents. (No URL) Maybe I can email pic's to somebody that can post. Don't know if they are legal, but I've been running them for 3yrs now with no issues.

Re: Custom bumpers?

This my Ford econoline rear bumper. I narrowed it a little & had to pull the ends out to match the fenders. I would like to make an aluminum airdam for it
w/some cool rivets holding it together. Sorry for the terrible pic, took it w/my phone.

From the pic the bumper looks pretty cool. We need to have a better look at it though.
Is your truck chopped or is it the pic that makes it look that way?

Re: Custom bumpers?

No the the truck is not chopped. Here is a better pic, I think it needs something below it though. The shop I work for built some Aluminum ground effects for Airide tech a couple of years ago. So might do something like that.

Re: Custom bumpers?

Does anyone know of a place that sells the "smoothie" type bumper for the 73-80 models? I remember years ago seeing somewhere online. There was an option with or w/o lights in them.
