You are Larry's son aren't you? I'm sure it will look factory when it's done, with both tranny's. The 4.8/SM465/NP205 will be really cool while it lasts, but the NV4500 will give it a new personality. Sounds fun, I'll be watching for that.

no, I think I'm the same age as Larry. But if he wants to be my Dad and come down here and help, I sure wouldn't mind! I do pick his mind every now and then though. He does tend to make things seem awfully easy.

FWIW, it looks like an '88 241 is also an option (now that we've completely highjacked this thread)

I know, right? I think he said something in his trip thread that I obviously took all wrong. Still, it'll be a great swap in each phase.

I have owned 4.8 and 5.3 new Tahoes, Yukons, Sivlerados. Sierras, etc., and there is a difference in acceleration ability with the 5.3. If you kick down the accelerator on the 5.3 will take off a bit faster. However, in daily easy driving, especially in the city, there is no difference in performance. I would say gas mileage is about 2 mpg better in the city with the 4.8. I tried to get 3.42 rear axle ratio (or lower) on those new vehicles and got 15.5 city/18.5 highway on my last 2010 ext. cab. Sierra with 3.23 (I think) rear axle ratio.
