Greetings from the UK....

.... I was wondering if there are any more of us from this side 'of the pond'?

I've been lurking on here looking at the great rides you guys have and trying to do some research as i've got my eyes set on a '66, short bed, step side thats for sale over here.

I've always had aircooled VWs, various beetles, campers and a type 3 squareback. A few years ago I chopped the roof off my very first beetle (owned it for over 20 odd years!) and welded the doors shut and built a roofless roadster, I sold it last summer to make some room so that I could convert my garage into a gym and workshop as i'm teaching myself how to pinstripe. A couple of years ago I defected the VW scene and bought myself a '64 Volvo Amazon, its subtly lowered, wide steel rims, whitewall tyres, later 2ltr twin carb engine, etc etc. but i've always wanted a pick up and the owner of the '66 step side is willing to do a part ex with me. So fingers crossed it happens.

Sorry for waffling on and well done if you've read this far!

Im sure if I get the 66 i'll be posting up some real dumb arse questions etc so please bear with me! This forum seems alot more laid back than a lot of car related ones that I post on.

So anyway

Re: Greetings from the UK....

Welcome! This is a good forum. There are a few guys on here from where your at. I cant recall offhand what their names are( GRIZZ63?) These are real fun trucks to work with. Ive had 3 over the last 25 years. Is the one your looking at buying right hand drive? Us american guys always like to see RHD versions of our trucks.

Re: Greetings from the UK....

Thank you.

The truck i'm looking at is still left hand drive and i'll probably leave it that way as LHD doesn't bother me at all. My VW Squareback I had was LHD as it was an import and I had no problems with being on the 'wrong side'

Welcome,

If you look in the list of forums there's an International section for members to get to find their neighbor. As for asking questions, we learn here everyday by someone's inquiries of their observations.

Re: Greetings from the UK....

Welcome from Rochester, Kent.

My 1963 Taunus Transit which is for sale to finance purchase of a C10 from the USA was imported by me from Germany, and the steering is on the wrong side too, but I love it.

Adjusting to the road takes about 20 seconds.

Welcome to the forum

Happy to see another member from the UK. I think there must be 4 or 5 UK members here in the '60-'66 section.

Re: Greetings from the UK....

Welcome. I was able to visit the UK quite a bit and always liked it. Almost brought back an Austin Mini. Those cars are a kick. Hope you get the truck. I think you will like it if you do and welcome.

Re: Greetings from the UK....

Another UK member here, got a pile of rust that used to be a '66 C10 step side falling apart on my drive. There's pretty much nothing left of the bottom foot or so of it, so it'll be an interesting build to say the least!

I am in the same rusty boat. There are plenty of places that sell patch panels to weld in though. LMC trucks is one. This is the most common thing with these trucks. The floors and the fenders. I don't have the money to do it right now so for now I cleaned the floors up, screwed a patch over the holes insulated for sound and put indoor/outdoor carpet over the top. I have to admit it looks better than I originally thought.
