Option Code Question
I have no Spid in my truck. Being in Canada I wrote to the GM Historical thing a few years ago and got a printout of the codes from when my truck was built. Most of the codes are straight forward but there is one I cannot figure out and it the description is "Rear Wheel Equipment Z32". It also has the Z33 Spare Wheel Equipment and Z34 Spare Tire Equipment Codes and that is why I'm wondering what the "Z32 Rear Wheel Equipment" means.

I didn't see yours, but the poster says he will add them. Guess you can send him an email to see if he knows. Good luck. |

Re: Option Code Question
Greg,
The codes soud like they are build codes and not RPO codes. When a vehicle is built standard components are specified as well as optional. Without seeing your list I can't really offer much except that they are likely line specs for rear wheels, spare wheel and spare tire. Is there also a code for front wheel equipment?

Re: Option Code Question
Seems like a mix of normally seen RPO codes with a couple of build codes. Can't add anything to the Z32 rear wheel eq. question though, sorry.

Re: Option Code Question
I think those codes are special production options, kind of like the Camaro Z28 which is a performance option indicated on the Build Sheet. Also, late model Z71 trucks, Z24 Cavaliers, and the mighty Z06 Corvette. Maybe special equipment for the Canadian market? Just a guess.

Re: Option Code Question
Thanks for the responses. I'm thinking the Z32 Code is a single code that encompasses the Z33 and Z34 spare wheel and tire codes because I think you could order a spare rim without the spare tire.

Re: Option Code Question
There are lots of directions this could be. However I really don't think it is a special "package" item, but probably an equipment level notation. IIRC most spare wheels were "Q" and "S" codes. As a point of reference here are the "Z" codes from a US parts manual. Not much help though in that it does not list even the known Canadian RPO codes often seen out of Oshawa. These would include Z49 Canadian Base Equipment, Z45 Max. Protection Anti-Freeze, V78 Delete Certification and U18 Kilo Speedometer. If you look through this list you can see "Z" codes were a real catch all for options. As a note this is from the 5/79 edition of the 46-72 PM so the descriptions tend toward the later square body's than 67-72 specific.
