SPRT 76 My new Truck!!!

Well after getting rid of a lot stuff around the house I finally was able to find the truck I always wanted. A 1976 swb two tone truck. This is the third square I have owned but I like the proportions of this one the best. It needs a drive train but that ok. My very first Vehicle was a 77 stepside that I started working on whe I was 14. And now that my son is 13 I think it might be nice to try and work with him on it. I really like the patina of the truck and I dont want to go over board with a major restoraion. I just want a nice safe driver that wont take to long to get on the road. The body is fairly straight and rust free with the exception of the nose on the hood and a few dings and bongs over the 36 years its been around. I think I want to get one of those "legacy" plates that the CA DMV is offering in blue and yellow that says SPRT 76.

Re: SPRT 76 My new Truck!!!

So now that the axle is getting closer to the frame I am measuring back spacing so I can get my rims down the road, 15x10 steels. I have about 14 inches in the wheel well. and about 7 inches from the axle flange to the inside and aqbout the same to the outside of the well. I am planning on running the 5 1/4 backspace on the 15x10 rim.

Re: SPRT 76 My new Truck!!!

Here is a pic of mine with 295/50/15s on 15x10s with 5in backspace. I could go as low as I want without rubbing. There is about 1in clearance on the inside and 1/4in on the outside. I believe 5.5in backspace would give you 1/2in clearance on the inside and 3/4in on the outside. Nice project by the way.

Re: SPRT 76 My new Truck!!!

Thanks for the pic J Knight, I was planning on 5 inch back space as well.
88Jimmy4x4 yeah I will have to notch it but this is project "no cash" kind of a pay as you go thing.
I figured I would do something a little different this time out and stay really focused on one area of the truck at a time and resist the tempatation to just buy every thing at random. I am starting on the rear and doing the lowering and brakes then move to the front and do the same thing. After it is lowered and able to stop then I figured I would do the drive train.

Re: SPRT 76 My new Truck!!!

Its alot harder to stay on one section at a time than it seems but I think it will produce a running vehicle faster than jumping around.
