Need help with motor mounts

Ok, I am in the middle of a motor swap in my 87 R10. The old TBI 350 is gone and a 383 vortec stroker is going in its place. I purchased new motor mounts that mount to the frame. I forgot however to remove the motor mounts that were attached to the block. Where in the world do I find replacements? The new motor doesn't have them. Any help is appreciated. I have looked in all the places I know but can only find the mounts that mount to the frame.

Sounds like you need clam shells.

I thought the clam shell mounted to the frame? I need the other half that mounts to the engine block and slips over the clamshells

I would try checking local salvage yards or car-part.com

Re: Need help with motor mounts

That is correct. I need the bracket that bolts to the block. I have new clamshell motor mounts installed already. Just need the piece that fits over the clam shell and the bolt then goes through

Have you checked your local parts stores, that is where we normally get them for 67-72 trucks.

Re: Need help with motor mounts

Havent yet. Just checked their websites. Only thing it would return was the clamshell that mounts to the frame. I have to stop in there today. I will see what they have.

We have been calling the piece that bolts to the block a "clam shell". I guess that would make the rubber mount the "clam". Here's a pic of a set of clam shells:

Re: Need help with motor mounts

One other question, are they only available in all steel? Is that factory? For some reason i was thinking there was rubber too but i really have no idea.

Re: Need help with motor mounts

These are factory and they are all steel. I have a bucket full of these as I take them off the motor before they go to the engine shop. The only rubber would be the motor mount itself as seen in post #5.

Re: Need help with motor mounts

Sweet. I am guessing they will bolt up to any small block chevy right? Do you have the necessary hardware for installing them as well? Guessing just 3 bolts per side?

I do not have any bolts right now, but they use standard bolts.

Re: Need help with motor mounts

They bolt up to any smallblock.
The ones in the e-bay ad post #4 are way over-priced at $27 I just found the picture and wanted to show you it.Those also have a reinforcing plate in them if you look closely. They added that as some of them will have cracks around the bolt holes.
They use 3/8 coarse bolts to hold them to the block and it is best to use lock washers on them so the bolts don't back out.
Your best bet would be one of the discount auto wreckers. They are dirt cheap there and often times you will find them laying on the ground already unbolted.

Re: Need help with motor mounts

I tried looking on Summit. Only thing it would pull up was the mount to the frame. Part number by chance?
