Front suspension upgrade question

Hello everyone,

I got a crossmember from my neighbor and I'm trying to figure out the year range for parts. I was told it was out of a 72 or a 73. I was hoping to get some insight if this looks like a 71-72 front end or a 73-87.... Any help would be very appreciated.

Only way to tell is to go get a outer tie rod end from a 71/72 and the one from a 73-87. That will tell you.

Re: Front suspension upgrade question

Its a 73 up. Can tell by the upper A arm bushings. 71-72 have a solid looking bushing. 73 up have the rubber one that you have.

Re: Front suspension upgrade question

Yep, it is a '73 and up suspension. The rubber control arm bushings are the easiest way to ID them.

These front ends bolt into our trucks which gives you disk brakes, power steering if you add the box. Easy upgrade.

Re: Front suspension upgrade question

Lots of great info regarding that swap here on the site. I used a '79 suspension under my '64. You'll have to drill 2 new holes and elongate two others and you're done. For the money you spend and what you gain in return, it's hard to beat.
