what is this exactly?

i have this on the right side of my firewall tight to the fender and it has one vacuum line going to it, my truck was a A/C truck from the factory, but the compressor and lines are long gone. does this have to do with the original A/C? can i get ride of it?

this is the only vacuum line i have going to my intake and like to get ride of t if i can.

This is the control for your heater and A/C controls. I haven't hooked mine up yet with the new engine and found out my heater is now inoperable. Not fun to find out when it's 35 degrees outside. I'd say leave it.

without it hooked up, do you have any heater controls? i dont need much, this is just my summer truck.

Well, mine isn't hooked up and when I went to turn the heater on last week I got....nadda. I believe all of them are run on vacuum which is what that canister is.

It's a vacuum resivior. If the engines off and you have the key on for the heater control you can still change settings. I got rid of mine and just ran the single vacuum line out of the firewall to a y hose made of a doctors stethoscope tube that goes to my vac advance lol

You will find out some day that when you remove this little item that when you go up a hill, the air dampers inside your car or truck may reposition, due to the lack of a vacuum reservoir to keep a small amount of vacuum available for the operation of the components. Your vacuum drops as the engine works harder to climb hills or pull things, so the dampers with spring return components on them will go back to a normal position.

However, get some longer vacuum hose and some splices and move the plastic thing to a place that is out of sight and keep it.

Actually it is an integral part of your heater controls. It is the part that holds the vacuum to keep those dampers that you chooose to be in a certain line-up in those positions. Granted they will work without it, but they will also change positions when you lug your engine down, without it.
