I couldn't agree more with Chevyrado. The stuff for sale on CL is just stupid-high. I suspect that folks are watching too much Barret Jackson or Mecum. Some of these trucks come without beds, engines, transmissions, glass or doors and the sellers still want 2 or 3 thousand. I live near Tampa, FL and the cheapest 78-83 Chevy pickup on Craigslist is $2000. What the hell is happening??? |

Re: Truck prices?
I think that one thing that has kept prices up is the fact that alot of people feel that their '85 Caprice is a classic. I see stupid prices on CL all the time. I'm more impressed with the fact that cars that are like only five years old and have 200,000 miles on them people want almost new prices. I just don't get it. I like our trucks and there for awhile I was looking for another to just use as a driver but every one I saw was just way over priced. Then the other extreme was if it was in my budget it was nothing but rust. I realize nobody is making old cars but seriously your '78 Dodge Dynasty is a what you think is worth 2k? Scrap prices also keep the prices up. I'm also surprised how many just cabs that are on CL that are like over 1k or more. Personally I feel that prices are going to start leveling off and maybe drop. I've heard one guy say he bought one of the new Challengers cause he thought the prices were going to sky rocket. Well he's not happy.

Re: Truck prices?
Maybe another reason is the export. In Europe a reasonable crew cab is 10k easy, a good one does 20k. This is due to the fact that these older cars pay less road taxes than new ones.
This guy sells cars for a very average price, nice to compare: http://www.rdclassics.nl For example: Running a new Silverado on LPG will cost me 2316 Euro in road taxes and 1400 Euro insurance per year. Running a pre 1986 Silverado Crew will cost me 0 euro in road taxes and 110 euro insurance per year. There is a busines case for restoring a pre 1986 car to modern specs. |

Re: Truck prices?
That's crazy. But then I can see where your comming from. But how much does it cost to import a car from the states? I wouldn't think it would be cheap. I'd also worry about somebody takin the money and not sending the car. Plus a dually would be heavy and I don't know if they charge by weight or size?

Re: Truck prices?
I agree, prices are way up! Mine's not for sale, but the first guy willing to part with $18k gets it!

Charging is per weight class and fuel type. Diesel and liquid propane gas (LPG) are taxed higher than gasoline. Both are irrelevant when your car is older than 1986, since you stop paying road taxes altogether. |

Re: Truck prices?
I understand when prices (of anything) go up over a year or two, supply and demand, trends, etc. But, in December, looking only on the East coast (VA, NC, GA, FL), I could routinely find 78-83 square bodies for $500 - $850. Now (April 1st), I'm lucky to find the very same criteria for $1500 - $2500. That's a significant increase in just 3 months. I suppose that if I discovered that the car/truck I had for sale suddenly went up 100%, I might take it off the market, wait a week, and put it back for sale at the higher amount. But, the increase just doesn't make sense. The demand hasn't gone up and the supply hasn't diminished

Re: Truck prices?
Since I got my truck 4 years ago in march I have been watching the prices steadily increase about $1500-2000 avg. at least as far as Shortbeds are concerned

Re: Truck prices?
Trucks in my area are skyrocketing by thousands each year. A truck I paid $3000 for 3 years ago is now comparable to a $6000 truck in my area now. And it's just sat there. Good investment if you ask me. My square trucks have all paid for themselves time and time again.
