63 steering column
Hello everyone! I have a new problem with my steering column wiring. I ordered a new turn signal switch and was installing it last weekend. When I went to put it together, I discovered the switch was smaller than my old one and wouldn't mount up. I then took apart the column on a friends 66 GMC, but his is the same as mine. Is this a difference between Chevy & GMC? If so, would I be able to swap the mounting plate from a Chevy and make it work? Or am I better off swapping out the whole column for a newer style? Any help would be appreciated.

If you haven't found out already, lots of Chevy stuff won't work on our GMC's!
You still running your 305 V6..........oh wait, the local parts house told me it doesn't exist. I must be mistaking it with a V8 ungghhh..... I finally gave up and went to Chevy drivetrain. Jim

I tried rebuilding my '64 column. I got all new guts, and it still wasn't right. The thing turned like a stuck pig. Old columns never go back together the way they came from the factory.
I just swapped mine for an Ididit column. Night and day difference. They're worth the cash. Measure your entire length from steering wheel to box. A company called Classic Performance Products offers a kit w/ a bolt on intermediate shaft and rag joint. http://www.classicperform.com/ Make sure you get the right adapter for your harness. The '63 and '64 are different.

thanks for the info Capn. I had considered an ididit column before, but just can't afford it. What about swapping in a column from a newer truck? A friend has been trying to talk me into it for a couple years, but I wouldn't give. Has anybody done this? Got any tips for me? Any help would be appreciated!
