The performance pumps supposedly have a better impeller design, you can get them in iron or aluminum to save weight. Personally in an application like a 4000# truck I wouldnt even mess with an aluminum pump, but thats just me. There's a lot more areas that could stand to lose some weight before I pop for an aluminum pump. If cooling is a concern Id probably try to find out why its running hot before spending the extra cash on a high perf pump. If you really need the extra flow but are tight on cash there are a few companies that offer a disc that you rivet to your impeller for a few bucks.

I always slap some paint on a pump before I put it on.
