Edelbrock Carb Adapter

Ok, I got a 500cfm Edelbrock carb today for my 283 4GC replacment. Do I need an adapter Edelbrock 2696 or will that carb bolt right on?? I don't want to find out the day I take off the old one. Anyone that knows please... Thank you

If I remember correctly the Edelbrock is the same as the old Carter AFB's. They bolted right up to the chevy manifold. Should be a bolt and play! Enjoy!

Chuck's right about Edel being same bolt pattern as AFB. But, the AFB did not have same bolt pattern as the Rochester 4gc. [The 4GC & intake also came on the 250hp/327, while the 300hp/327 came with bigger intake and AFB.] Also, IIRC, you hafta use an adapter to put the Edel on the 4gc intake: the butterflies will interfere with the smaller bore in the 4GC intake; I know for sure we had to use adapters to put AFB's on the 4GC intake.

Lotsa extra info from us, I realize, PLUS no 100% answer to your ?'s. Best we can do.

Unless someone else chimes in with a "for sure", call Edlelbrock & ask 'em. Else, buy an adapter to be sure--not much investment, plus you can always sell it on Craigslist.

Wow, ok I called Edelebrock like you said and it will not bolt up. The holes are smaller and closer together. They don't make an adapter but they said Trans-Dapt does. Thank God I called... Thanks for the info

Hey, Edelbrock said Trans-Dapt 2064 adapter is needed. The holes are on the manifold are smaller and closer together..

It would be worth it to swap on a better intake. You can grind the name off, and paint it orange

it is a good idea to run a carb adapter/spacer since edelbrock carbs are aluminum and the adapter helps with heat placement to keep from warping the base of the carb...(especially on a cast iron intake)...just my 2 cents

Not sure, but it looks like Speedway Motors--speed shop--item#1351935 may work. The holes are also slightly tapered, again iirc.
