Re: mustang taillights on a stepside
20 years ago you used to see them with the '65 Mustang [chevron-style] taillights. Nothing new. Does look cool. I'd like to see new VW Bug taillights frenched into the back of a stepside's rear fenders. May be expensive to get OEM new from a VW dealer, however.

Re: mustang taillights on a stepside
They do look good. I think the best non-stock I have see so far was bobs409 whihc used the 65 Impala lights. His current with the custom shcevy bowtie are cool, but I always liked the 65 Impala lights on the stepside.

Re: mustang taillights on a stepside
I've seen the Mustang lights before but on 73 up steps. They look OK but have been used often enough that it isn't that unusual.I like ppl that think outside the box tho.

Here is his before using the 65 Impala tailights and what he custom made to replace them. Both are great, I just like the look with the 65's on there

Re: mustang taillights on a stepside
There's different strokes for different folks, right? So, maybe the 65-66 Mustang taillights are old-hat. For some young people, it may be just what they like...maybe Dad had 'em on his truck.
'58 Biscayne/BelAir taillights also can look good, plus you can replace the lenses with '59 Caddy lenses. The '65 Biscayne/BelAire/Impala taillights look nice, too. Corvair assemblies from 60-64, could work. You can go retro with some '49-54 Pontiac tail lights or with a little work, you can use 55-57 Cameo/Suburban (GMC version of Cameo), which are also common to '54 150/210/BelAire bodies. To get really off-beat, what about some Harley Davidson Tombstones? Your imagination is your limit.

Re: mustang taillights on a stepside
Well Bill, that is different. They look a little bit large to me or maybe it's because of the closeup shot. I must be real hard to please cause I haven't found a taillamp replacement yet that I thought was THE one, ya know.

Re: mustang taillights on a stepside
The basic overall style of the truck is square, Round taillights seem out of place! The shape of the mustang light would be more what im lookin for!

For a "classy" look,I dig the late-40s pickup lights mounted low on the sides. They are the square verticle rectangle ones with rounded edges/corners and a little bowtie in the chrome. The Model As look good to.But,the Chevy ones are a good notch cooler in my book.Y`all can do what you like,I do. BTW,tail lights mounted in the back of fenders catch hell from rain water.See the rust streaks coming from out of those Impala lights?

Re: mustang taillights on a stepside
Most guys used the 70 mustang lights not the 65-66 because the 70's had a flat bezel. They run $500 a set.
The 65-66 had the curved centers on the bezels. My truck has the 70's frenched in and you need a huge square hole and four smaller holes for the bezel itself. You need two steel buckets,Two lenses,Two rubber seals and the two bezels.CJ's pony parts has reproduction kits and Goodmark sells them as well. I also have seen the billet bezels and they look really sharp as well. |
