Frame cleaning and painting

So I started a little the other day on the cleaning of my frame.

My question, and this will NOT be a show truck or even a daily driver, is how clean do i have to get the frame?

I mean, glistening shiny metal or mostly metal? Do i have to get any deeper rust spots all the way out or if I plan on a simple POR 15 job or similar....

I know preparation is key and do the marine clean degrease, then the metal etching primer....etc etc

But how clean must the frame be? (see picture)
Also, how do you get the inside of the frame good?

I think it looks pretty good the way it is. Youve done a nice job. I would just dab some rust converter on any obviously rusty spots and start painting before it starts to rust up again.

I used Van Sickles Satin Black Farm and Implement paint. It comes in an aersol can as well as quarts and gallons. I LOVE it. the sheen is just right and is lays down easy and is tough as nails. You can get it at Atwoods, and other stores I am sure. I too am building a daily driver so I just powerwashed mine and scuffed it. You apply this paint right over bare metal or light rust.

The more time you spend prepping the better it will look.

Wow mine is a daily driver and going to remain that way and you have done way more than i intend to do. I plan on just pressure washing the crap out of it and then maybe hitting with a scotchbrite pad before using some probably cheap black rattle can stuff

Well see the bed came off because it was an ugly utility bed so it was a given that that was going to scrap.

I have it off anyway and just figured "why not"

Oven cleaner was easy as heck...messy, but easy.

I just need to find a competent and friendly welder to build my flatbed frame

I would just go to a flat bed shop and have them build you a bed to your liking. I did that long time ago on a 75 chevy i had, they built me the bed custom to my truck and exactly how i wanted it and i think i paid $1200 parts and labor for mine and it was i wood topped flatbed it came out really nice.

Ok, finally got a second to snap some pics, I painted it day before Thanksgiving and it has been sitting since. It is dusty and shows a hint of gray because of it, but it will give you an idea of what to expect. I used the aerosol can and loved it. I am going to paint my inner fenders and rad support with this also.
