Tires, tires....
I need to replace the tires on my truck. They've been there since about '94 and the RF is separating so it's well overdue. I want an OTR type tread, nothing aggressive, and probably something that suggests the original bias ply tread. Sizes I can use are 225/75 16 or 215/85 16. Tread could be similar to RLT9 on this page: http://www.radartires.com/products/suv-ltr/suv-ltr.htm
I'd looooove whitewalls. It's just not in the budget. In fact with my finances I'm probably looking at cheapie tires. But still... I'd loooove whitewalls. IMO the truck won't look it's best without them. Has anyone here tried grinding / cutting the blackwall off a white letter / white stripe tire? How did it turn out? Would you do it again? If I did happen to come up with cash for real whitewalls, where to get them other than Coker and Diamondback? Any luck with Portawalls or fake whitewalls against radials? tia Last edited by 1project2many; 05-13-2013 at 05:54 PM. |

Re: Tires, tires....
Can't imagine what lawyers would do to you if ground/cut tire blew out and gave someone a sore back.
I never thought white is hiding in a black wall? |

Re: Tires, tires....
I. Have had great success having the raised whites and "pinners" ground toroughly a 2" white wall. Tire shops that do it normally charge $15 to $20 per tire
Hurst Racing Tires in Portland has some great prices. Let Cody know you are from the truck forum! 503-656-1572 Several of us here have used Cody at Hurst and have great results without spending a ton Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Tires, tires....
you can buy an actual white wall tire paint made by Ranger corp. I've heard nothing but good things about it. I believe it's $80 for a kit and it comes with the proper tape to get a clean line and enough paint to do 4 tires

Re: Tires, tires....
Ogre... lol. I'm not sure I'm capable of that.
I've seen the Youtube videos and a few web pages. Chances are I'm on my own with that job. Tire shops around here are afraid of doing anything other than mount and balance (and collecting $$ of course). Rufton, lawyers are able to turn nothing into something regardless of the situation. Every time we modify our trucks we're inviting a lawsuit. Keep in mind though, as a group the classic car guys have fewer damage claims than most other car associations so that probably says something positive for us. I'll check with Hurst. |

1project2many,
Man, it sounds like NH is too restrictive, you may need to move 1 state to the west.
