Re: gas tank install

Use dish soap for lube. I took my bench seat out to make it easier. Have an extra person on the filler end to guide it into the hole, grommet. And wear leather gloves. The seams are sharp on these things. Good luck. Oh yeh, empty any gas out, also makes it easier.

Re: gas tank install

+2 make sure the tank is empty and have a helper. I did my tank about4 months ago by myself and it had a few more gallons of gas in it than I thought. My back was useless for a month after. The install is not that hard, use soap and a little muscle and the grommet will fall it to place. Did you also get a new sending unit? For some reason the sending unit I got seemed to be too long and would not fit properly into the tank. I had to bend it just a little bit for it to seal right, I think that was actually harder than the grommet.

Re: gas tank install

Its the old fuel tank you want to make sure is empty, if its already out then all thats left is the easy part, install. Let us know how everthing went when you get it installed.

Re: gas tank install

Where did you buy your new tank from and how much did it cost ? My truck decided to stall on me yesterday so I replaced the fuel filter and it ran great for about 2 miles .The new filter is also clogged up so I need a new tank as well.

Re: gas tank install

I need a new tank as well. The cheapest I found was at partstrain.com for $170. Has anyone ordered from them before?

Re: gas tank install

You can get a new blazer tank for the same price that relocates between the frame rails under the bed. Thats my future plan.

Re: gas tank install

Resurrecting an old thread here… do you recommend installing the grommet on the fuel neck and then installing the entire unit together? Or install the grommet then insert the neck? I'm having some trouble over here.

Re: gas tank install

I installed the grommet into the cab and put vaseline on the inside to lube it and then slid the tank neck through it .

Re: gas tank install

I did similar but what I can't figure out is how far through the grommet the metal neck should protrude. There's a lip about 1/2" - 3/4" down the neck from the outside edge and I'm not sure if the grommet is supposed to snap behind that or go over it. I'll have to post a pic later.
