Re: Good news Bad news
[QUOTE=Tom Vogel;5830801]Maybe these shots will show it better. It's the same on both sides. The photo with the marker pen shows the gap is bout 1/2". It's just right in the middle where the 'M' in the GMC is (about 1/4"). The only thing we could think to do was to make a cut with a separating disk under the latch in the upper section of the grill, and pull/bend the center of the grill forward another 1/4", then move the hood forward about 1/8". That would help a little. How is everyone else's grill gap look? (Especially the original guys)
/QUOTE] I think that's the only thing you can do, the grill is lined up well with the fenders. I'm not familiar with GMC's, is there a center piece at the top that bolts under the latch? You could enlarge the holes, push it forward, and retighten?

Yes, the grill consists of two pieces, an upper and a lower. I was thinking of cutting a Small sliver like pie section out of the center, pulling it out forward and then retightening the latch to hold it there. Posted via Mobile Device |

Nice looking Jimmy. I know stuff gets to us sometimes but I think if you keep trying to make it perfect you might mess some new stuff up big time.I see alot of gaps on nice vehicles that are closer than that. My thought, Leave it a lone.

Re: Good news Bad news
Hmm. Is there anyway to shim out the hood hinges? Did the factory have any such arrangement? I don't think so, but that might close some of the gap. Jimmy looks awesome, but I can see why this is driving you nuts, it would do the same with me. Is the door/fender gap looking good? (seems to be good in the pics).

Re: Good news Bad news
I wonder if he did remedy this. My thoughts go to the door gap. I wonder if that fender could be moved back.

Re: Good news Bad news
Tom it looks to me that if all door to fender, hood to cowl, hood to fender gaps are right and the only issue is the very center of the hood to grill gap that is the only thing needing adjusted. I agree the center of the grill needs to be pulled out forward just a bit to even up the gap across the front. You may well need to slot the center support grill mounting holes to enable it to move out some or maybe shim the center bracket itself where it mounts to the radiator support. Moving the hood hinges or hood latch itself will not help to even the frontal gap issue but will upset the other gaps.

Re: Good news Bad news
Hate to tell you this but that's the factory fit. I have three GMCs here and they all are the same. The fenders are longer at the gap then the hood and the upper grill bar doesn't follow the hood line. The only cure is to pie cut and lengthen the hood at the fenders.
Very nice truck BTW. Posted via Mobile Device
