rear pinion seal replace

I need to replace the pinion seal in my rear end. Dont have a socket big enough at home so need to buy one, what size socket is the nut? truck is a 1957 chevy 3600 3/4 ton with the stock rear end.

Can't help with size other than google, but remember to mark it and count the number of turns to remove it. Install it back the same number of turns to the exact spot.

I have googled and came up short, i measured it with my caliper and a 1 5/8 should have worked according to it but didnt.

For crush shim applications I do the same except I tighten it a hair tighter. For solid shims I do the same and I measure torque as well. I use lock tight and mark final position so I'll know if nut moved.
