Re: Leaving the site
I would think staff here would reach out to you and express their appreciation for those who help out here.
I was close to leaving once, but some kind members told me to stick it out. Special thanks to markeb01. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Leaving the site
Tincan1966, I value your input a lot. Please don't let a couple of fools deprive the rest of us "un-taught" folks the information and guidance that you can provide! I truly rely on guys like you to help me through things because I am not a mechanic, I'm a computer tech. This site and a lot of the guys, like you, have helped me get my truck exactly where I want it. If you decide to go, I understand, but please reconsider.

Re: Leaving the site
Thanks guys, for the kind words and input.
I again must apologize for my quick tempered Irish-German roots. I am admittedly, a very stubbord, and proud person, with a strong belief that I do my best to help and it appears I carry too much thought of being right. I am going to put myself in time out for a bit, but will continue to lurk around. We are starting a whole new adventure with our business and my only defense is I have a bit more stress than I realized. We've signed on with MBM Brakes, Painless Performance(now authorized installer)Pypes Exhaust, Queen City Components(AC parts/kits) as well as several other new vendors, adding approx 1000 sq ft of retail space/showroom. "the Kid" (my step-daughter) has decided to join us and make this a true family business, too. Again, thanks to all you great people, and I cannot apologize enough for the A** I have been, as of late. I admit I was wrong with my reactions and there is no excuse for a MAN to act in that manner. I disrespected the integrity of the site and its members, myself included. Another thank you goes to an PM i recieved this morning, from someone I have had disagreements with in the past, that was nothing but supportive and explanatory, making me realize my own fault. I appreciate it and took it to heart.! |

Re: Leaving the site
Tincan, I don't think I've ever had the pleasure of talking with you, what I can ad here is after being on several forums is, People are typing words, they don't always come out the same as if you were directly speaking to that person. Many times I've tried to say or explain something only for the next person to take it 180 degrees the opposite of what was in my head. Take a deep breath and push on. Plenty of interesting stuff and some of the BEST people you would ever meet on here. Would be nice if we could organize and meet all in one central location with our pride and joy's. Jon.

Re: Leaving the site
I hope you realize that "we" are all family here, per say.
Just as you have your own family at home. Out of all the Forums I visit, this one seems to be the 'cleanest' one. What I mean, it typically no BS it tolerated here, while others anything goes (foul language, insults, etc.) Hopefully you stick around with the fam, my brutha !!

^^^^What he said, If you want to see a site that will wear you out go hang out at TBSSOWNERS.COM, it will make you think this is the best site ever. Temper some peoples remaks/posts and move on. Best of luck in whatever you chose to do.

Re: Leaving the site
Tincan,
I'm glad to hear that you will stick around, even if only to lurk and post frugally. If I may, I have a couple of thoughts to share with you and the group. For one, I believe that overall there are more genuine helpful kind and supportive people on this site than there are of the less evolved people. It is for this reason that I, and I think perhaps you too, will want to continue to participate as a part of this online community. I don't post up much myself; mainly just in my build thread to share my learnings and sometimes on another thread when I know I can help or have a question. For me success in the online world has always been about being selective. Secondly I disagree with some others about sending PMs only. When you send PMs the good insights and info only get shared with one person. Other lurkers, or people who actually know how to use the search function lose out on your knowledge. These are just my thoughts. Hope to see you around! Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Leaving the site
I completely agree with argonaut's thoughts. I'm new here, but I'm not new to vehicles nor internet forums. I spend most of my time here reading, and searching. I'll jump in and help when my knowledge permits, as I believe it is important to contribute to the community. PMs should be for detailed personal communication, if someone has a solution to a publicly asked question, the answer should be posted on the forum. That's what this is, by definition: a forum for discussion. Of course, there will be differing opinions, just like real life. No one should be frustrated that someone disagrees with them. Put your info/opinion/fact/thought out there, and get on with your day. People will quickly figure out who the "go-to" guys are for pertinent information, and who should be on the "ignore" list.

Glad your stickin around.
You've got great info to share and I appreciate it. Plus you explain the logic behind your statement or reason why things are as they are. Haven't read everything you've ever written but from what I've read it has been helpful. Wish my build could be as helpful to others. |

Re: Leaving the site
I've left twice, and after googling a subject, it seems the results are always to this site.
Self employment is tough. You always have to have the answer. Your opinion is what sells and creates confidence in your clients. As a business owner you are forced to stick to your recommendations as it is your liability that's on the line. You can't please everyone and you don't have to service everyone. Same applies to everything in life. Pick and choose. Take two aspirin, breath in and breath out, take some time on the toilet instead of pushing . By the way, I still think I'm right! lol

Re: Leaving the site
tincan - Don't let the clowns discourage you. Sites like this benefit from folks with knowledge which was learned through experience. IMO, the more info available, the better. Glad you've decided to continue to hang out here.
On another note - my Mom was born and raised in Independence. Still have family out there. |

Re: Leaving the site
This is the friendliest most mature site I have found. A lot of sites out there are just very hard to put up with, like the one where they yell at you if your wheels are not the right size or if you want to use radial tires or your car is too new and you post it.
Here you can restore it, put 20" wheels on it, jack it up, lower it, or just drive it as is, and no-one tells you that you "destroyed that truck" or "it's not traditional" Anyway, check out some other sites, you will see this is the most civilized of them all, and of course has the most knowledge of Chevy trucks of any year. There really is no alternative, at least that I know of. I love this site!!!

Re: Leaving the site
Glad you're sticking around!! I'll have to agree with the other posts about this being the best forum on the web. I recently joined a F*rd truck forum (mods- don't ban me!) since we're restoring a '66 F100 at work and those guys have really turned me off from posting over there. I called the truck a "fleetside" instead of a "styleside" and got blasted right off the bat in my introductory post since "fleetside" is a Chevy term!! Had to edit my post before they kicked me off the site and all. And how dare I make the mistake of assuming that the engine was a 352 since it had "352" cast into the block! I didn't know, but I surely do now... It's the exact opposite of what this site has been since I joined here- friendly people that are willing to help out the best they know how. Sometimes we don't agree on exactly what "the best way how" is, but that happens and we have to overlook things sometimes to keep peace. Of the 7-8 different forums I frequently visit/post on, this is by far the best one I've been a part of!

Tincan, glad to hear you are hanging around, sounds like you have a plateful with new business ventures BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!
Found this article which kind of set me down to rethink somethings, peoples practices are controlled by ability, knowledge and finances. But I do agree that safety should always be #1 Members like you make this forum what it is, |

This may sound harsh, but posts like this are nothing but drama, woah is me ect.. Do we want to see someone leave? heck no.. if they feel the need to do so most just log out. Every once in a while someone will post a I am leaving post and it has no benefit on the community as a whole. It leaves no good feelings and usually ends in pure drama. When they do, the staff locks it. I do fully understand how frustrating it is to be told your solution is incorrect when you know dern well its right. I also know how some cat chase answers by folks whom think they know can drive you nuts. Its part of life, its part of being in a large community. To take your ball and leave is simply childish. To post that you are doing so is even more childish. I hope that the OP decides to stay. I hope that they can find a way to work past their aggravation. In the end, a short lurk or step away may be what does that. Good luck in whatever choice you make. Hope to see your name posting again in a positive manner soon. |
