Air intake in an inline 6
Can I see some pics or suggestions of an air intake for an inline 6. I'm looking to put something in my 84 c10.

What kinda carb you got on it?You can go with just a normal air cleaner style or a tubing style http://www.spectreperformance.com/

Re: Air intake in an inline 6
Nothing works significantly better than the factory air cleaner with the intake tube to the fender area. Assuming you have the integral head with 2-bbl staged carb, there is little or nothing in the aftermarket. unless you're buzzing this to RPMs that the rods won't like, the factory stuff, cleaned and painted, is pretty good. I did see someone who welded his base into a larger taller cleaner. You might also search Jyard for one from a big truck, just to be different.

that is what sucks about having the inline 6, it's a very good engine but when you want to start adding some performance parts to it you are limited. i think i might end up switching out the carb.

You'll have to make your own carb adaptor. Off hand I know of notihng that's a direct replacement for the Varijet. You might be able to machine out the pocket on the integral head - no one I know has ever tried it but anything's possible.

Re: Air intake in an inline 6
The old school circle track racers, used to run a 4 barrel carb on the straight 6 engines, there are cams, rods, cranks the whole 9 yards to build whatever you'd like out of your 6'er. That being said... the simplicity of dropping in a v8 makes the idea, unless your heart set upon it, a hard choice to make..(the old there is no replacement for displacement theory)

I respectfully disagree sir. That's the beauty of theories. It's just a theory.

Re: Air intake in an inline 6
In theory adding boost is adding displacement lol. But a 1000rwhp inline 6? That will shut up those supra thumping kids haha

Re: Air intake in an inline 6
I agree, I also love the older motors, a flathead ford can be race tuned as well, but if you truly want to go fast on a budget.../shrug... a 6'er will go fast. but its not going be cheap. these old Chevy's have so many fun aspects, just like ice cream.. many flavors, for many tastes.
Mine is a big block, soon to be a little more healthy, but its hard to make a truck unique doing it this way. I saw a 64 short bed last weekend with a Cummins in it.. it sounded AWESOME the guy had it setup as a land speed race truck, single exhaust outlet thru the passenger side front fender.. it was truly cool. and very unique. God only knows how much money n time he had in her. I wasn't trying to sound negative, just realistic not many folks have huge budgets to play with on toys.../grin |

Re: Air intake in an inline 6
Since his is an 84 he will have to swap to an older head to be able to use that intake that is why most people junk the integral head you cant do much if anything with it.

Re: Air intake in an inline 6
Agreed... I got into building a lot of civics when I wanted fast cars and was on a hella tight budget, and they didn't have a lot of displacement... But this D*** SURE did the trick
