Question about 72 doors
I know 72 doors are supposed to have the screw under the vent glass, but has anyone seen or know of a 72 model without that screw? The reason I ask is because my 72 K5 has the screw on the passenger door, but not the driver's door. Now, I know the driver's door could have been swapped at one time, but it looks original and matches the rest of the truck in every way. My door has some rust, so I've been on the lookout for a 72 door. Well, I was talking to a guy in the parts forum that has a set of doors, and his are the same way. Driver door-no vent screw; passenger door-has vent screw. Is it possible that doors from 71s were used on early 72s?

Re: Question about 72 doors
Now theres a question. Both mine have the screws. Id prefer the screw because its there for a good reason. (to stop the door skins from spreading out.)

Re: Question about 72 doors
Dont wanna jack your thread but I have a 70 with original doors that has a screw there too?? The screw has a plastic piece around it. Anybody else have this to?. One of my 72's has both screws and the other 72 has one and one but Im fairly certain of a door swap previously.

Looks like you may have a truck door modified. Another way to tell a K5 door is Blazer/Jimmy doors have a secondary plate welded around the door striker mechanism.

Re: Question about 72 doors
Could be a truck door that they cut down at the factory. I bought a 69 camaro that had an odd block casting number in it. When I first bought the car in the early 90's only books said Nova/Chevelle. yet the vin was on the block. Found in a book Chevrolet by the numbers that it was documented in 4 known camaros. Anyway Author of the book got access to all GM documents etc. Plus interviewed line workers. They said when we ran out we didn't stop the line we got something similar changed the papers and kept the line moving. Just like I have seen several blazers with the speaker in the top of cowl. They are probably truck cowls/windshield frames. I highly doubt GM made 2 types of blazer windshield frame/Cowls

Re: Question about 72 doors
That's neat historical info.
That would be really interesting if it was a cut down truck door from the factory. There's no way to know for sure, but since there are fewer Blazers than trucks, I would think that there's a good chance that a 71 door could have been used. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Question about 72 doors
All blazer doors are cut down truck doors, they show the measurements where to cut them in the factory assembly manual.
